Okay I'm only 25 and recently been experiencing Hot Flashes.  Does anyone know if this is a side effect from the Plaquenil?

Thanks!

StacyLee,

I'm sorry you are having hot flashes. I had them while on Prednisone, which I tapered off of in November. I've been taking Plaquenil since February and have not had any flashes. I hope you find an answer soon! It's no fun, especially during the summer.

StacyLee, I'm not sure about plaquenil and hot flashes. I never had them associated with plaquenil, but I think I might remember someone else asking a similar question here at some time about plaquenil and hot flashes. you could either call your pharmacist or check the list of side effects they list when you pick up your next script. I'm sorry I couldn't help more with your question.

Hot flashes can come from Lupus itself...but I don't remember if that is a direct cause or if its the lupus playing with hormones that makes then happen. I had LOTS of hot flashes before my lupus became more controlled.

I'd probably ask my rheumy about them next time I'm in if I were you. (At least one of the med's from my list below must be stopping my hot flashes.)

I too experience Hot Flashes - I think my Doctor said it may have something to do with the Lupus -- I am in early menopause (which I heard can go 10 years - can someone PLEASE tell me this isn't so???).
The other thing that can fluctuate is your (body) temp.  A lot of us have fevers on a daily basis.  It is not the same as a hot flash - more like I feel like I want to put my head down and I just don't "feel" right.
Anyway, I thought I would mention both because when I'm getting a fever - it too can rise rather quickly too.

My hot flashes consisted of waking up in the night soaking wet -- no fever. These lasted from about age 32 untill Lupus drugs at about age 43. 48 now and still no sign of menopause ---

That's why I'm pretty sure it was Lupus -- even the drs didn't know what it was, and believe me, I tried to find out! It was very annoying, esp on the nights when I had to change not only my nightclothes but also my bedclothes!
