The pain I'm having in my back and chest is costohconritis. Don't know anything about it except that it's an inflammation of the cartilage that conncts the ribs to the sternum. It does not sound serious and should resolve on it's own.

But I was in for a big surprise. I have a tic bite. I knew I had a bite or little bites on my right breast and the whole breast itches, but I figured one of the dogs had brought in flees, or I had picked up a little critter in the backyard. Well, I did pick up a little critter - the kind that sucks your blood. The spot where the tic bit me is blood red. I don't think it's related to costochondritis.

If anyone else has that please tell me about your experience with it.

Off for a nap - I'm not used to these real earlymornings.

Pat, I'm sorry to hear about the costochondritis. I've had it a few times and it can be very painful. I don't remember if heat or ice is supposed to work better. Hopfully it won't last too long. I wonder if the massage might have aggrevated it some. What did the doc say about the lymph nodes?

Keep an eye on the tick bite - the last thing you need is lymes. Also make sure you go to the doc if you start feeling sick with a fever and aches, etc. That's not easy for us lupies who have those kind of symptoms anyway. Hopefully the bite will heal fine and you won't have any problems with it.

Have a good nap - I'm off to take one soon too.

Take care

Hippi,

Heat is supposed to help costochondritis. The doc said massage would be ok. She gave me an antibiotic for the tic bite, but I'll be sure to watch for symptoms. You're right. I do not want to get lymes.

Have you had a good nap? I have sleeping sickness today. I think it's the flexeril, which, by the way, is therapeutic for costochondritis. So I'm off to sleep again.

Hope you're having a good day.

By the way Hippi, she said my lymph nodes aren't enlarged. The swelling the masseuse was feeling was inflamations of the muscle and tisssue. I wonder how much the masseuse knows.

Have you been checked for IBC (Inflammatory Breast Cancer).  Many people don't know about it, but it's extremely dangerous.  You might want to go to the doctor and have him check you for it.  It starts out looking like a bug bite that's why I'm concerned.  I read that you need an MRI to detect it.  Good luck, it probably isn't that but better safe than sorry.

Jill,

Yes I have, but inadvertently. I had my annual mammogram last week, and although it turned out fine the doctor was concerned about the place on my breast that apparently resembled IBC and wanted me to return for an ultrasound. After a couple of days I began to suspect shingles and returned to my PCP. By then it was obvious that it was shingles and she's treating me for it. You have no idea how much relief I felt. Have you ever heard of anyone being happy that they had shingles? I know quite a bit about IBS and it's nothing I'd wish on anyone.

I can't thank you enough for your interest and suggestion that I be checked for IBC. I see that you are new here and hope you don't have an autoimmune disease. If I can ever help you with anything please let me know. You can always find me here.

Many thanks,

Pat
