I haven't been typing too much lately on here because I'm having issues with my hands.  I started getting sharp pains mostly in my right hand at the joints yesterday and they started getting red at the joint sites.  Now they are swollen and I had to take my rings off (with the help of soap and water) and I still really can't get them back on today.  My left hand has gone pretty much back to normal but my right hand is still hurting and swollen.  I'm now getting pain in my right arm which feels like bone pain because the pain is not coming from any joints but midway on my upper arm and it feels like its deep.  We had a pretty dramatic change in the barometric pressure yesterday so thats the only thing that I can think of with this.  Gosh, and I have been doing really good for the past couple of weeks. sad

Ouch, Des! My right hand is where I get the most pain and swelling and it's the last place I want to get it! I'm sorry you're having this problem and hope it goes away as quickly as it came.

Well Des that explains it. You've had a couple of good weeks. God forbid we should actually feel good for any length of time! ERGGGGG! Anyway I'm sorry you are hurting. Is this something from your original DX's. I get that in my left hand actually. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that I'm left handed and I use it more. It kind of feels like bone spurs that swell up and get red in the knuckles. I usually up my pred. when that happens and it brings the pain and swelling down some.

Give you fingers a rest we all know it's not possible to be here all the time. Unless of course you learn to type with your toes! LOL.

I hope you get better soon

love ya

Hi Des.  Know so totally exactly what you are talking about.  The middle joints on all eight of my fingers are bumpy and red and swollen and hot to the touch most of the time (yet the doctors don't know what is causing it).  I hope you feel better soon.  My hands got so swollen a few months back that I had to have a couple of my rings cut off.  I only have one ring left on and I can't get it off so am just leaving it on.  Scared once I do get it off that I'll never be able to wear it again and it means the most to me to have this one in particular on.

Thanks Pat, Carol, and Diane

Its gone down a bit from this morning thank goodness. The pain isn't so bad either but that's after taking two Naproxen so I bet it cut down on the inflammation. I have been dragging myself around all day today too and I hope it's not a flare coming on. I'm crossing my fingers that its just the weather doing this to me. I never drink energy drinks but I had to buy one before the drive home today as I was afraid that I would fall asleep on the road... SCARY. I'm home now and safe... and it's Friday :-)

Des, I can very much relate to the painful swollen hands. My daughter went to hold my hand the other day and pulled her hand away saying that my hand was too hot. They usually get especially hot and swollen during a flare, so I hope you're not headed for a flare.

Do make sure to mention this to your doctor though. I know that RA often affects the hands so your rheumy may want to look into that.

Take care of yourself and try to get lots of rest this weekend.
