Does anyone take probiotics? I was wondering if it would hurt to take them with plaquenil? I am trying to get my body back to near normal as I can.

I take them but I never ran it by my rheumy doctor (I know bad!!) but I haven't had any problem with them. I mostly take them for my gut as they are great at keeping the good/bad bacteria in balance. The ones I take are refigerated called Primadophilus Reuteri made by Natures Way. My GI doc is the one that kept pushing the probiotics on me so I finally started taking them. If you suffer from diarrhea, they are supposed to help you. I suffer more from constipation so I can't attest to that. I haven't had any problems taking them.

Yes!  I can't live without mine.  They are what keeps my gut in balance (I also have Crohn's Disease).

I take them on an empty stomach when I first get up in the morning - almost 45 minutes before I eat or take anything else.  I haven't heard of anything conflicts with anything medicine wise - except antibiotics - you need to keep these at least 3 hours apart so as to not kill the good bacteria you just fed your body.

Thank you both, I was taking them before I started plaq & I think it would be good idea to start them again. I feel kind of stupid asking about all meds but I would rather be safe than sorry. I'll start mine in the morning.

Hi BHK, I'm not sure what that is. Is that like acidopholus or live yogurt cultures? Those I use. I started years ago because I was told it would help get rid of a yeast infection that I couldn't shake because I was on so many antibiotics it killed my good ensymes. If that isn't what you are talking about I'm sorry???????

I eat yogurt everyday and it has natural probiotics in there. I don't want to add anything to my current medication schedule, but it works for me. It helps calms stomach sometimes when it gets upset from the medication. =)
I was diagnosed with Lupus with Antiphospholipid syndrome in Nov 05.
Current list of medications includes:

Cellcept 250mg/5 capsules twice a day, Prilosec 20mg/1 capsule once a day, Plaquenil 200mg/one tablet twice a day, Metoprolol 25mg/half tablet twice a day, Prednisone 7.5mg/one tablet once a day, Coumadin as directed, Tetracycline 250mg/ two capsules twice a day

Avita cream, Clindamycin lotion, triamcinolone ointment daily to control skin rashes.

Rituxan infusions twice every six months
