Emmi's liver biopsy was on Tuesday and we haven't heard from her and that concerns me. Has anyone else heard from her?

Emmi, if you read this, I hope your biopsy went well! You may not feel up to posting, but when you do, I'm anxious to find out how it went. I've been concerned about you.

Sending love and hugs,

Pat

Emmi--
Same here, but I know you are sore, sore and tired and if lucky, doped up. I hope the results were okay. I want you to know I'm thinking of you and I know how scary this stuff can be, but you are strong and you can get through it. Just know you are missed and prayed for.

Hi--
I think they usually look at liver biopsies right away, to make sure they got only liver tissue and tissue from the area they want, especially if they suspect lesions. They may gone ahead and admitted her because they want to make sure they got the right spot and to do more tests. There is an alternative route too that they can use to biopsy that is more complicated. She may still be hurting, I hope not. I hope she is at home sleeping peacefully.

Patty, Diane, Marji, Carol, Donna, Babs and Hippi,

Thanks so much, Patty for remembering when I had the biopsy and starting this and for all you guys for your thoughts and prayers. I was on here last night but whenever I tried to check this thread it wouldn't open for me I was sooooo frustrated!

The biopsy went well, but omg, I would not ever volunteer for one of these again--obviously! The lesion (mass) being biopsied was located in the posterior area of the right lobe of the liver so I had to be on my back. Long story short: no sedation; it was very uncomfortable at the time; I was very uncomfortaable for several days; yes, Marji, I did take the pain meds although I had to ask for some to take home (made me feel like a drug seeker); by Sat. I started feeling functional. I still have some residual soreness in my abdomen.

My pcp's office didn't call by Fri. afternoon about results so I called the radiologist. She talked to the pathologist and called me back. The mass is benign--HOORAY! It is called a sclerosed hemangioma. A regular hemangioma is the most common benign liver tumor. A sclerosed hemangioma is rare. I can't find any more information than that about it. I am wondering if it is somehow related to my scleroderma; it is a hardened mass of abnormal blood vessels. Scleroderma is hardening of tissue due to the overproduction of collagen as well as blood vessel abnormalities.

I don't know if my pcp will have any info about it or if there is any need for treatment. I do have an appointment with a GI in a few weeks. I intend to ask the GI doc about it as well.

Thanks again to all of you for checking on me. It means a lot and I appreciate it more than you know.

xoxo emmie

PS All is going well so far with daughter and grandaughter being here. In fact, this past week it was quite a blessing. I should know by now that it is much better to trust than to stew about things!

Benign! what beautiful words to hear! I'm sorry you had to go through all that but if it happens again they will have a better idea of what to do and possibly a better way to go about treating you. From what I heard about those biopsies I'm amazed they just didn't write you a percription with you having to ask. I guess they never had one done before.
I am so happy that you are beginning to feel better and things with your family are are better too!
thank you for letting us know. I hope you get back on your feet real soon things are way to quiet around here with you gone!

Ouch! The description of the biopsy sounds painful and I can see why you wouldn't want to go through it again. It is great news that the tumor is benign!!! As I was reading your post, I was wondering the same thing as you about it being related to your scleroderma. Hopefully your pcp can tell you more about it.

I hope you continue to feel better. I'm so glad that having your daughter and granddaughter has been a blessing to you. Keep taking good care of yourself. ((((hugs))))

Emmi,

What a wonderful way to start my Monday morning! I'm elated that you got good news and that the mass was benign. If it's related to your scleroderma, is that something you'll discuss with your rheumy? If it is, I'd be a little concerned that is something that could recur. I pray that you are well and that you never have to go through that procedure again. Ever!

I've been so worried about you because whenever someone as regular on the forum as you doesn't post for a while, we know that they are really sick. What a godsend your daughter must have been for your this week.

Please keep us up to date on your progress whenever you feel up to it.

Love,

Pat

Emmi--
I'm so so so relieved. I knew you were probably hurting and hopefully doped up. You want to make sure it clots up so you don't hemmorhage, and if you have any bleeding issues I imagine they really make you stay down. Not that I wanted to move at all. It's like being stabbed deeply, which is exactly what it is, with no sedation, because if you don't move your lungs, they can get lung tissue. I know my doc did mine sitting and made me sit still there in so much pain while he checked to make sure he didn't get any lung or any other non-liver tissue. I'm so so so glad it's benign. I was so so so worried. Lumps in the liver are never good and you had two. Hopefully, they will be able to leave the lump in and do nothing, people with cirrhosis can have like half their liver or more totally scar tissue and they just keep on going, many don't even know. In my liver, every cell is as full of fat as it can be and I suspect the thin edge has some fibrosis, but most of the time my liver levels are normal, but I do really watch what meds I take. The liver does heal, and ALT being high is a sign that it is healing. Perhaps if they get better control of your scleroderma it will go away, or maybe its in a place that gets repeatedly irritated and they can stop whatever gi problem is irritating it and it will heal. I had atrophy of the heart that healed when I got on plaq, and the docs didn't tell me it would, but after it did they told me it does happen if you can stop the irritation to it. Im just so so so glad. I was really worried. It just wasn't the same here without you!

Emmi-- found these sites you might like to read. There is a national organization of vascular anomalies that has a lot on the liver hemangioma.
http://www.novanews.org/LiverHemangioma.html
And emedicine article says its found in people with SLE
http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic964.htm

And the yahoo search engine is so stupid that BizRate is offering a discount on a liver hemangioma if you want to buy one. :)

Take care. I'm so glad you are ok.
