Hi-
My bf brought home a nasty cold and try as I may, even sleeping in the guest room, I got it.  So far, I seem to be handling it ok but I'm having pain, severe pain, in my back when I breath, like the bones in my spine are all crushing against each other.  I have very bad scoliosis and herniates disks all over and canal stenosis and osteoarthritis.  Does anyone know if colds like this can make your arthritis worse?  Should I be worried about this?  Sometimes I move and it brings tears to my eyes.  It started out like regular lung pain, dull ache when you inhale, but this seems like a different pain.  It hurts worst to lay down, sitting up doesn't.   I don't want to go to the er and be there all night for something stupid and I've been too sick to drive to the doctor by myself in the sun and my boyfriend is working.  And where I live, there is no mass transportation or taxis.
Love, Marji

Marji, I'm no doctor, but my own experience is that anytime I get a cold or a flu or anything that my body has to try to fight off, it makes my lupus flare. I think this happens to a lot of people with AI diseases.

How are things today? I'm hoping that if you need to go to the doc, someone can take you. Don't let your cold get too bad before you go see the doc. Take care

Hey Marji:  Sorry to hear you are in the same boat, except you have the cold on top of it.  confused Bones hurt man!  My pain is starting to go away after going through this for about a week.  Hopefully, it won't be much longer for you too.  Mine was like that constant arthritic pain but very deep severe pain in all my bones not just the joints this time.  I cried a lot (& I almost never cry) and couldn't sleep for days, so I feel for you.

Sometimes back pain is the worst, I can't imagine this combined with what your going through must feel like.  H-E-double hockey sticks, I guess.  I hope you feel better real soon! - Kristin

Wow, looks like alot of us are going through the bone pain thing!

But I would think Marji, that you should check with your doctor. Even if its nothing, its better to be sure. I think its always a good idea to check especially when the symptoms are new or are far worse than we have experienced before. Maybe you could phone your physician and let them know about your transportation problem. Could they make a late appointment for you and your bf come home early, or even an early one and he would go in late?

You will be in my prayers, wish I could drive over and take you in myself!

Hi--
Thanks so much for your kind words and stuff. It does seem like these things come in groups, sometimes I think its the weather. It's been raining alot where I live, which always makes my arthritis worse. I called the doc and she could see me on monday, but I might go in and see if I can get a chest xray at the hospital er. I'm doing a little better due to pain meds and cold medicine, but haven't been able to get good sleep for a few days, up all last night. My bf can take me to the er this weekend and maybe they can just check my chest and all. I've been started to feel lightheaded from the respiratory part, so I probably need a breathing treatment anyway. I'm sorry you all are having the bone pain too, mine is in the center of my back between my shoulders, where I have scoliosis. Ouch this hurts. I hopeyou all get some good pain meds and get better and thanks again for you help.
Love, Marji
