Hello All, AnnieRae here.  Have not posted in a while.  I have inflammatory arthritis and RA, (mild form of both) for two years.  Have been taking Plaquenil for almost two years, and just 800 mg Ibuprophen as needed, a few flares here and there, but have manged fairly well.

My question is:  My little finger on my right hand is losing color on the fingernail and is turning completely white, it is very tender on the first joint, swollen and a little inflammed, the nail is ridgy looks like it has little pin pricks in it.  It also feels kind of numb.

My big toe on my right foot is also this way, but not as inflammed.  I have gone to a podiatrist about my toenail, a culture was done on my toenail for fungus.  Negative.

My appt with my Rheumy is not until July 30.  I might go ahead and try to get in sooner, but it is very hard to do that.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or have experienced anything like this?  Your comments would be greatly appreciated.   Thank you  AnnieRae :-)

There Is Always Hope

Hi annierae,

I have experienced exactly what you describe. It happened about a year ago on my little finger and the one right next to it about a month later. The first signs were that they hurt like heck, like I banged them or injured them somehow but I didn't and mine also hurt at the first joint. I had to be careful because every little bang to them would hurt. I then started getting white puss stuff coming from between my finger and nail bed. I was an idiot and never went to the doctor. I did notice the pin prick marks too and I still get them on and off. I'd be so curious to hear what it is since I never bothered to find out. Please let me know.

Take Care

BTW... this happened before I took Plaquenil

Hi Annie, I don't know what it might be. But it diffinently sounds like something to discuss with your rheumy. You may be showing signs of a new disease.. Yeah I know yippeee right? I hope you can get in sooner. While it is still there and he/she can get a good look at what's going on. If you can't you might want to get some pictures. It's hard to say what it could look like by the time you get in there.

HI Annie,Where it looks like pin pricks are there also blisters? The reason I ask is because I have this on fingers & toes. It started on my toe & now is on fingers too. It seems to be getting worse & spreading. I sure would like to know myself. I go to dermy & rheumy on the 30th so with alittle luck maybe we will both get some answers. I know this sounds real crazy but I have had this for 1yr & half, the only time it went away was when they thought I had shingles & put me on meds. I wonder if this is not a form of herpes ( not the bad kind! )
