Hi,
My mum was booked in for an operation on 4th September but hospital have rang today and told her the tests she had done for her pre op have showed she has MRSA. Last year after her colostomy operation she caught MRSA but they said it had gone. Now we know it hadn't as the tests done 3 months later showed it but they didn't let her know and didn't offer any treatment. I'm so mad now. She has been visiting my grandad on the cancer ward and could easily have passed it to him or someone else on the ward who is really sick. Now she has to use special toothpastes, hair & body washes and she gets tested again in 7 days. What a joke our health service is. They keep MRSA quiet because they know it shouldn't be spreading like it is, but by keeping it quiet theyr'e putting people at risk. My mum really needs this operation as well, she has been in sever pain and on morphine for months and now it looks like she'll have to wait even longer. God, I'm madddddd. Sorry for the ranting. x x

Hi Lion, Yeah from what I understand it can lay dorment for years. They do the same thing in the US. My son caught it when he was in Iraq. He was a medic there so he was more susceptible. However as I am sure you know that anywhere there is a group of people together it can spread like wild fire. I own support groups for our troops and we have sent out letters to them warning not to use the same towels as others or the same razors anything that can spread this aweful disease. It can and does kill people. You would think they would at least let these men and women know. Most of the medics are very suceptible and they are giving meds and bandaids out daily. I know your frustration and I wish there was more know about it. I hope your mom and grandad are going to be alright

Hi Lion:

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. You have very right to be mad about this. I know things like this is why my Rheumy is so so against me being in the hospital, unless I really require it. I know I caught my horrible bought of C-Diff from being in the hospital in January this year.

I hope that your Mom recovers quickly so that she can get her surgery. I hope that you're feeling better and that you're rash is totally gone now. Keep us posted on how things are.

Hugs,
Barbara

Lion, I'm also sorry to heat about your mom. I just read an article about MRSA and it sounds like it can get really bad. I really hope it doesn't take too long to clear up so she can have her operation. You and your mom will be in my thoughts.

Take care
