I'm so annoyed right now...about two months ago I found out I was anemic...my Rheumy put me on a daily iron supplement for 30 days...told me after the 30 days to go have blood drawn so they could see the results...I did all this...well I've been really tired and sick again lately and realized they never contacted me about the results...this was about 3 weeks ago that I had the blood drawn...so I called them and sure enough my levels went up but not enough and so they want me to do 30 days more, but since it's been 3 weeks not only do I have to take 650 mg for 30 days but then I will have to take 325 mg for an other 30 days.  I know I should have called them sooner, but man were they ever going to tell me?!?  I guess I'm just frustrated.

Hi Stacy, I'm sorry you havn't been feeling well. I suffer off and on from it as well. It absolutely can make you tired! I know the feeling. You might consider taking some extra B12 along with it. I actually take extras b12 per doctors orders plus a really good multiple vitamin and omega 3. You should discuss it with your doctor to make certain that the vitamins are alright to take with your other meds first though. You have a right to be upset. It seems when get pushed aside or shoved into a crack sometimes doesn't it. I have a good relationship with my PCP but other doctors seem to be really bad at follow ups. I'm sorry that happened to you.

Hugs

Oh no Stacey!! That is not right!

Something you can try . . . if you get your labs done outside of your doctor's office, take the lab slip and write something down near the bottom, like this

cc: Stacey Lee Smith, 8321 Mountain St., Somewhere, OH 23452

That will indicate to the lab to send you a courtesy copy of the lab results.

Sometimes this works for me and sometimes it doesn't . . . not sure why. . . but its great when it works.

If the iron bothers you, you can try a brand called SLOW-FE. It enters the body more gently and helped me out a great deal when I had to take three iron pills a day for several months.

I hope this helps.

Blessings!

Thank you both! My labs are done by the doctors office. I go through the same group for my every day doctor and it's amazing the difference. This group has an online site that I can log in and few all my information including test results from years ago. For some reason my rheumy never updates it, but I'll go see my regular doctor and the next day the stuff from my rheumy and her is on there. I am seriously considering looking for a new rheumy!

Okie thanks for the vitamin suggestion...last night while I was roaming Walgreen's waiting for my prescriptions I had to get more benefiber and found one that also has B-12 in it...so I'm going to try that. :)
