I've missed you guys. We returned from our vacation at a fly fishing lodge in Canada where we had a great time. The weather was cool, the food homemade, and the fishing incredible. We caught 8 to 15 pound sockeye salmon - hubby caught 45 of them and I caught 11. Fly fishing is hard work, having to stand in the water in a flowing river and fish, but it's exhilarating.

I was able to get lots of rest but made a big mistake on day 2 and rather than putting on sunblock I relied on my moisturizer that has SPF and it didn't do the job. My hands and face got red and the next day I ran a fever and felt as though I had been tenderized like a piece of round steak. So I took advantage of the big porch and read, listened to music and spent time knitting.

My hubby returned home with a high fever and has been in bed for two days. Between the sun, the strenuous fishing, and the travel involved, I'm pretty worn out and sore so I haven't been posting. I've been reading your posts, though, and see some new faces and some old. I know that Carol is on vacation and that she'll be missed this month. I haven't seen much of Hippi on the forum and hope that doesn't mean that she's feeling bad again.

I'll be back on in a day or two when my body has had time to recuperate.

Take note friends, and USE SUNBLOCK!!!!

Love,

Pat

Hi Pat . . . soooo sorry you got nailed by the sun.

Actually, even sunblock doesn't do it for me. I still use it, but I have to cover up and stay out of the mid-day sun altogether. I wear a big man's fishing shirt (UV fabric) whenever I drive so I can cover even my hands. I poke my thumbs out under the button on the cuff, so it stays over my hands. Wearing it backwords while driving works best for me. I also use an umbrella if I go out during the day hours. It is SO limiting. I do my outdoor stuff before 9:00 am and an hour or so before sunset.

Your vacation sounds like fun!! I hope you recover fast!!

Blessings!

(((Gentle Hugs))) I'm sorry you are flaring from your vacation... sad . You rest, rest and keep resting till you feel better.
Fly fishing looks like it would be so much fun! I'm sure it is hard work though. I would love to try it one day.

Hi, Pat. Hope you had a great vacation! Canada sounds like SO much fun. I know it was a couple of years ago when I was able to go and see Niagara Falls! SO sorry about your battle with the sun. Rest up and take care!

Hi Pat! Sounds like a great vacation! I am a lot like Rosie when it comes to the sun and I hope you can recover quickly from the traveling and the sun. It is very easy to misjudge these things but I am finding that I get better and better at protecting myself the longer I am sick. This whole thing ends up being trial and error. We just need to learn from our mistakes.

Since my diagnosis, I try to buy everything with SPF (moisturizer, make-up, powder, AND suntan lotion - if they would add SPF to perfume I'd probably buy it, too!) and just layer it on each morning no matter what my plans for the day. That way I can do whatever comes up. Hats, umbrellas, long sleeve blouses or jackets or coats, no shorts for me anymore (capris are the shortest pant I wear now), or the longer dresses or skirts are now my preferred way of dressing and accessorizing. It took awhile for all this to evovle but it has all come together for me now and it seems to work. I rarely get that flu-like feeling or general "sick" feeling from the sun. I used to end up with incredible fatigue for the next few days, too, so it is definitely worth it to modify my "style" to avoid that yucky feeling.

Then, after you get it all reorganized, you can go on vacation and not have to think about all the details of avoiding the sun and have fun! I still haven't solved all the other "crappy" stuff, though! I suppose if someone ever does they will become famous and, maybe, very wealthy! Anyway, I hope you can rest and feel better very, very soon!
Prayers,
Audrey Ann

Thanks everyone.

I knew that when I went on this vacation I'd be using much more energy than usual and that I'd flare a little when I got home but I also knew that it would be worth it. Otherwise, why try to feel good if I never get up off this sofa. But I did make a bad error about the sunblock. It has been years since I've done that. I was totally covered except for my face and hands and my spf lotion was just not enough. Was I too tired to pull out the sunblock? I don't know. But live and learn again and again. How many times have I stressed over and over to others here to USE SUNBLOCK? More than I care to remember.

My hubby's temp hasn't gone away yet but it's coming down and I'm starting to feel a little better myself. I'll get back to everyone here in a day or two. Take care everyone.

Love,

Pat

Pat,
Feel better soon. I so understand what you mean about why bother trying to get better and feel good if all we do is lay around. A great vacation is well worth a bit of a flare once you're home. Just take good care now so you don't take longer than need be to recover. Glad you guys had such a great time.

xoxo emmie
PS Hope hubby feels better soon as well. I'm sure you worry about him, too.
