Hello , just a quick question ... I dont have the facial rash that most people with SLE have ... Its weird I also dont have other symptoms such as mouth ulcers etc.. I dont know if i should question whether or not I'v been correctly diagnosed .. Should I get a second opinion?? Its been a month since i was diagnosed with SLE. The rheumy mentioned it being connected with connective tissue disease, and said he thinks what I have is SLE. But I dont have all the symptoms that someone with SLE might have. Just joint pain,Fatigue, hair loss... Im new at this and very confused:o( , so if im not making sense then i apologize in advance ..

Hi Hope,

Check out the link at the end of my signature titled "Lupus Criteria". You need four of the eleven criteria for a diagnoses. Malar rash is just one of the eleven.

Did you reach your doctor by phone?? How are you feeling??

Hi, Hope. I think we all know how confusing this disease can be! You don't have to have any one particular symptom to have SLE. They can change as often as they want to. Your doc will probably be doing more testing to determine a correct diagnosis. When is your next appt. with your rheumy? Just hang tight and try not to get too frustrated. It is really helpful to read as many good books on lupus as you can stand. You cannot figure this one out quickly! Take care,

Hi Hope:

I've had lupus for 19 yrs and I know you need to have 4 out of the 11 symptoms (not at the same time) to receive a DX of lupus. Our symptoms change around our labs do different things. Lupus is different in each and everyone of us. That's way it's called the disease of 1,000 faces. Lupus can be mild where no meds are needed to severe and possibly life threatening. Wait and see what your Rheumy says, it never hurts to have a second opinion, but it could confuse the picture. I've had lupus since I was 23 yrs old I'm not 42 and I didn't get the official DX until I was 36 yrs old.

Good luck and welcome to our forum we're a close group and usually someone will have an answer for you or a direction to look for answers. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Take care,
