For the past week I've been so short of breath. My hubby has mentioned that he can hear me breathing hard when we talk on the phone and I feel as though my lungs have shrunk. I seem to huff and puff all the time. I don't have any pain or other new symptoms but wonder if this could be lupus related. It's not pleurisy or I'd have pain when I breathed. At least I think that's the case.

Have any of you had this symptom? Fortunately I see my rheumy on the 25th. I had an appointment with my PCP yesterday and didn't think to mention this to her, but I'll put it on my WRITTEN list to give to my rheumy. :-)

I did get a flu shot yesterday and gave my pcp the lab slip my rheumy gave me at my last visit. She always gives me a lab slip so that I can have my labs tested a week or so before my next visit so she'll have recent lab results. My pcp added her lab requests to the list and my blood and urine are being tested and they'll both have the results. Wow, that was the most convoluted paragraph I've ever written. Anyway, I like the way that they work together.

So what do you all think about my recent breathing difficulties? I hope this isn't the result of the strenuous fly fishing vacation I just took.

Thanks and happy weekend.

Hi Pat,

When I was anemic I was terribly short of breath. Just reading out loud would wind me. I know there are lots of other things that can cause it, but that one came to mind.

Glad you have a doctor appt coming up.

Hi, Pat. I have dealt with the shortness of breath. Do you feel anything down in your chest when breathing deeply? Even very light, fluttering almost? You've might have already read my long reply to purplerose a couple of days ago explaining exactly what all I went through. I just know that since organs can get involved in lupus, it would certainly be worth mentioning to your rheumy just to have that checked out. It could be something simple like a respiratory infection from your trip I might think? Anyway, hoping you're feeling better soon with NO shortness of breath, but if not please make a note to talk with your rheumy about it next appt. Take care and wishing you well,

Pat, I'm also glad you are seeing your rheumy pretty soon so you can discuss your shortness of breath. I get some shortness of breath and it does seem to get worse when I am flaring. I sometimes run out of breath just when I am talking. Sometimes I find I involuntarily have to take in a big breath - it's very weird.

I hope you're not coming down with something and I hope this is not something new having to do with your lupus. Try to take it easy and I hope this starts to resolve itself pretty soon.

Take care

Thanks Hippi, Sharen, Rosie and Stacie for your reassuring words. As you know, and have possibly experienced yourself, I have the dread that I could have lung involvement. But it's probably just part of this flare. i will definitely mention it to my rheumy on the 25th.

Love you guys,

Pat

Hi Patty,
Recently had that and reading out loud would make me so dizzy I thought I was going to pass out. Ended up having to do with my bronchial tubes becoming constricted relatively suddenly and very badly, I couldn't exhale hardly at all and the air would bubble and swirl in my lungs. Had my pulmonology tests and they showed my hypoxia which is probablydue to past lung damage and asthma/COPD getting worse. Prednisone completely fixed it. Was it due to my AI disease? Sure sounds like it, maybe same case with you . I would get into rheumy soon or call nurse and see about getting on something because it had started affecting my heart. I hope you feel better soon and that you get tests and get this documented and fixed up.
Love, Marji

Hi Patty,

I also have experienced shortness of breath on more than one occasion, mostly without pain. I went through all the tests, chest xray - EKG - echocardiogram. Nothing showed anything. It's so frustrating, I'm almost thinking that for me the air was not so good on those days... just not sure. I hope you are feeling a little better today.

Take Care

Patty, I hope you are doing better and that you are not still short of breath.

Thanks Marji and Des,

This is probably nothing to be worried about (but I will mention it to my rheumy) and we have had an unusually high mold and pollen count this week. That makes sense to me since this seemed to come on pretty fast. I was worried about it when it started, but am not now. I just feel like I need to rest more.

Hope you all have a great Tuesday.

Love,

Pat
