I saw my rheumy today and so far so good ... no organ involvement.  He did say because my numbers were so high that I have to have blood tests monthly to make sure everything is okay and I'm not having any organ involvement.

My Anti dsDNA came back positive and instead of a titer level the numbers were 2,256.  I didn't even know that the dsDNA could come back with anything other than positive or negative.  Has anyone else had any experience with their tests coming back like this?

If my titer is positive, then there is always a number value for the titer. My titer has never been as high as yours though.

Are the numbers that come back with the dsDNA a combo result? (i.e. the numbers being the ANA and the positive being the dsDNA or does the dsDNA have it's own set of numbers?

Hi Gidget. I've only seen anti-dsDNA results reported as a ratio (i.e., 1:32).  Even if your results were not a ratio, I'm certain none of the results are totaled (ANA + anti-dsDNA).  I'm sorry you're so sick!  (((Hugs)))

My anti-dsDNA tests come back as a single number, not a ratio. Mine is NOT a combo of ANA and anti-dsDNA because I only have the anti-dsDNA drawn, not an ANA.

Ides,
When they are doing the Anti dsDNA blood test on you, are they looking for anything in particular (i.e. organ involvement).

Thank you for answering my questions, you've been a lot of help.

Hi Gidget,
I pulled this from the  www.lupus.org

Tests to Assess Disease Activity

When a person diagnosed with lupus develops new or recurring symptoms, laboratory testing of blood or urine can help determine if the symptoms are due to an increase in lupus activity.

Disease activity correlates with a rise in:

  • CRP (C-reactive protein) binding
  • ESR, or sedimentation rate
  • Anti-DNA
  • Liver and kidney function tests (AST, ALT, BUN, creatinine)
  • CPK (muscle enzyme)
  • Urine protein or cellular casts

Disease activity also correlates with a fall in:

  • CBC or complete blood count (white blood cell count, hemoglobin, platelets)
  • Complement components
  • Serum albumin

I hope it helps some. There's alot more info there under "Lab tests". Good luck and take care. Keep us updated. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you Babs for the info. I'll go back to the lupus site and look it all over again. You've been a lot of help!

Sorry I didn't see you question sooner Gidget. My rheumy orders that anti-dsDNA titer along with a bunch of other tests every 4-6 weeks. He is looking not only at the dsDNA titer but whether there is anything signifying organ invlovement, especially involving the kidneys. Since it is suspected that my positive dsDNA titer is caused by a medication, Remicade, I believe he just tracking to make sure that is all that it is.
