I finally started feeling better by yesterday and this morning my family and I went to the first Iowa Walk for Lupus.  It was a flat 2 mile walk around a lake and it was nice and cool and cloudy.  We pretty much brought up the rear of the walk, but that was okay.  My son had a hard time with his arthritis, but he made it.  They had places to stop and rest along the way and golf carts there if people were unable to finish the walk.  It was just really neat to be there and look around and see lots of people who looked just like me.  For once I wasn't at all self conscious of my weight or my red cheeks or anything else.

Even if you aren't able to walk in one of these walks, I would really recommend just going to one if there is one near you just to look around and talk to other lupies.  It's the one place you'll get to meet other people like you and at our walk, there were several displays and some neat lupus items for sale (jewelry, tote bags, stickers, key chains, buttons, etc) and of course there were refreshments.

I'm very tired now but am so glad I went.  I'm planning to rest for the remainder of the weekend.  I don't need to head into another flare.

I keep trying to get to a local support group meeting and the first Monday of the month keeps falling on other important stuff. I'll double my efforts!!! Thanks for sharing that Hippi . . . sounds like you really enjoyed it and your son probably did too.

Congratulations, Hippi! I'm playing catch up again. That's great to hear about the walk you were able to be involved with (and your son too!). Rest, rest, rest. Take care,

Thanks so much everyone. This is an even that I want to do every year. Even if I'm too sick to walk, I want to go and be around others like me and to look at the displays and take part in the other things going on. Hopefully I'll always be able to walk in it.
