My doc advised me to take DHEA (100 to 200mg per day).  I'd never heard of this vitamin supplement before.  Has anyone had experience with DHEA?

Hi Jenny . . . I'm interested in the answers you'll get on this one. I was looking into that last year and forgot about it. There are some here who take that too. I'd also like to know if they feel that it is helping them. Question: Do you get yours at the store with the vitamins . . . or does your doc sell it to you?? My PCP started selling some supplements a while back and it makes me less likely to want to try some of that stuff because I feel like he is marketing his own wares. But it could be that he is SO into it, that he wants a quality product for his patients. Just curious.

Blessings!

Hi Rosie,

My doctor recommended I purchase DHEA at a health food store. But I actually found it in the vitamin section at Wal*mart - much cheaper! :) I've only been taking the supplement for a month - really too soon to tell a difference.

I think we have a thread from 4-6 months ago about DHEA - but I don't have time to look for it right now.

Jenny, there have been a few times I've been really tempted to try DHEA to see if it helps, but I've always chickened out. I did some reading about it and read a lot of mixed reviews. Some people said it helped, others said it didn't help and it gave some side effects such as facial hair. I think the jury is still out on how beneficial it is. I think that years ago, docs were really hopeful and thought it helped, but now there seems to be some question as to how helpful it is. I read that if you do buy it, make sure you go to a reputable health store where the people know what they are talking about.

If you decide to try it, please let us know how it works for you. I'm still pretty curious about it.

Add me to the list of people who want to know..my doctor told me about it when I was there for my last visit but, because I was so sick and tired I don't remember if she told me to buy it and use it now or wait until I had more blood taken...So I didn't get it yet.
