I am being asked yet again by my mother to give out a link to a webpage she set up. I hate when she does this. I don't know that many people and plus I really don't like being asked to participate in helping her try and sell stuff- every time she ends up wasting money. Yet, she has finally decided to publish one of the hordes of books she has been working on since I was a kid. So I am kind of in a quandary here, I want her to sell her books because she is good at writing and yet I am sick of her dragging me into her failed attempts to be a salesperson. Anyone have any advice? I won't post the link here because I think it breaks at least one rule.

LOL, Redrose, your last sentence made me chuckle....Yeah, you can't post the link here. sad   What if you were to say, "You know what mom.  This is your project, your job.  You need to look after the marketing of it.  I love you, and support you 100%, but I have so much on my plate as it is.  Plus, it's really important to be the main person looking after the marketing of your product if you want to be successful."

I don't know?  Does that sound reasonable?  I'm just tossing this out there! Just be honest with her and let her know you're not a salesperson and you find it all to be very uncomfortable.  It's better to be honest about your feelings than to fake it.  I've learned that the hard way..... you DO have a lot on your plate.  And this added stress isn't good for you.  Take care of YOU, okay.  I hope this helps, even a little!

"That's an idea, Mom, I'll do that if I ever get caught up and have time"

...and everyone knows *that* will never happen. LOL.

Hey redrose--
The whole anonimity of the internet would allow her to advertise and sell her books herself without anyone knowing. If she wants links placed, she needs to find sites where they feature writers work. "The writing club" is one and publishers frequent these sights and one might even pick up her book. But she must do this herself, for copyright and other reasons. There are plenty of people there at that site, which has a forum, that would help her. But she has to do it herself and communicate herself.

And that is the honest to God truth. So you aren't blowing her off, you are trying to help her. She needs to go there and open an account and everyone there will help her, they are very nice. Take care and be careful not to throw up on mom.
Love, Marji
