devil  Ok, I had a bit of trouble with work recently. I had to go to the hospital because I had some weird blackout. Thankfully I did not have a stroke or anything major, but I have had some of these happen after the event and I am scared how to deal with this. Does anyone have black outs? I mean like they just are gone for a couple hours and nothing will budge you? No memories, sometimes I seem conscious but I don't remember anything about the time and I am totally not there. Just really strange. They did a CAT scan and blood work and I am fine there. Any way I missed work cause of this black out spell and they wrote me up cause of not being able to call. No call/No show. I actually talked to my boss in person before  I went to the hospital, but he still wrote me up. I definatley have seen some real problems but it is hard to explain all this to people. Any advice. I really have no ideahow deal with this. Or if this is has anything to do with lupus...Sorry if I am off topic.

Tasha,
I see that you have a history of seizures. This kind of sounds like a type of seizure. I hope you will see a neurologist about this to see whats going on and get some relief. Please take care and keep us udpated. You are in my thoughts and prayer.

When I had seizures they were Grande Mal not Petite Mal...they never did find out why I had them so they called them pseudo-seizures. They were also not very long. When these happen I am out for a whole day or more...or at least effected by them. I find I am terribly moody and very tired after one too. Funny thing is I was under a great deal of stress then too, wonder if that has any bearing on this. It is so weird...they did some tests at the hospital but I waited two days to go so they may not have gotten the best reading. I will have to talk to doc about the possibilities....Is it possible to change types of seizures? Or have both in one person... No major damage was noted in the CAT scan...but I do not know how they can tell if you have seizures. I think they were more concerned about the possibility of a stroke. May not have looked for seizure stuff. Funny how the past comes to haunt me...

Tasha . . . you are absolutely on topic sis.

My brother had seizures (not lupus though) and he would fall to the floor and be out for a few minutes and then he would be up and walking, talking . . . all the while, he was in some altered state (sometimes even we couldn't tell if he was back yet). When he would finally snap out of it, he didn't remember ANYthing from the fall to the moment he snapped out of it. That could be minutes or hours. But again, he didn't have lupus.

Blessings!

Tasha, I would think your doctor or one of the doctors at the hospital would be able to write something for you for work so your boss realizes that you weren't physically able to call in. It sounds like your boss might be pretty harsh about attendance, so it would probably be a good idea to get something from your doctor when a serious health issue keeps you from work.

I really hope your doc can get to the bottom of the blackouts - those have to be scary.

Take care

Hi

I have lupus and have epilepsy.  I usually have grand mal siezures but I have had other types too.  I have also under stress had small periods of amnesia and anxiety attacks in which I blank out.  They can't tell if you've had a seizure unless your hooked up to an EEG when your having it.  CT just look for damage and scaring to see if there's a reason.  In the whole time I have ever had seizures they have never found a reason.  As for your job, since you have a documented illness and were seen after the incident they should forgive the no call no show.  If your boss won't help, take it to corporate if you have to.  You shouldn't be punished for what you have no control over.  Good Luck.

Hi Tasha,

They sound like seizures to me too.  I have (or had.  They're gone now), simple partial seizures.  There are so many different kinds of seizures out there.  The only way to find out if they are in fact seizures is to do an EEG or go to the seizure monitoring unit at your local hospital.  I did that and was in there for 5 days.  They counted over 40 seizures!  You're hooked up to electrodes the whole time, so even if you have a small one that you don't notice, it's recorded.  Definitely worth talking to your neurologist about, if you have one of those!  Or talk to your pcp and they can refer you to the right specialist.

I know they can be scary.  I'm thinking and praying for you,

Wow, thanks so much for the comments...I have not had a seizure in several years. I don't have a nuerologist. anymore, I may need to get a referal. Darn it I hate doctors. The amnesia thing is so there for me there are just spots of time I have nothing .... just gone. It is very scary for me. I am still trying to work it out with my job but that is even harder sometimes...people have a hard time understanding. Wish me luck guys cause I think I am going to need it. I really appreciate you all.
