Hi All,

I had an allergic reaction(Angioedema) a little over two weeks ago and at first the MD's at the ER thought it was the Plaquinil because it was a new med for me and i was taking it only 5 days.I spoke with my Rhuemy and she said she was 90% certain the reaction i had was from the Benicar. My primary MD and Allergist also agreed it was the Benicar.

The Allergist suggested to not take any new meds for at least two weeks while my body settles out the the allergic raection to the Benicar. It has been over two weeks and i took my first dose of Plaquinil last night. So how long does this drug take to work? When will i feel some of the benifits of it?? Lately,i have been having days of feeling more crappy than good and i'm hoping that the Plaquinil helps me soon....

Hi Fran:

I'm sorry that you had a serious reaction and had to take a break from your medications. I hope that you begin to feel better soon. Unfortunately, plaqunil can take up to three to six months before you feel the full effects from it. It can cause some stomach upset too at first. It will settle down once your body adjusts to it.

I certainly understand having more crappy days than good ones. I'm lucky if I get one good day per every 3 months. I wish you the best and please let us know how you are doing.

Take care,
Barbara

I hate the fact that you never know how your body will react to a medicine until you take it. Doctors always ask are you allergic to this and sometimes unless you have had that particular medicine you don't knw until you have some reaction fron it. I was amazed at how many of have been given Benicar and the doctors were aware of lupus diagnosis. I know realize I was having an allergic reaction from Benicar as well when one of doctors was concered about the constant swelling, and the fact that my lips were also swollen. My medicine was then switched. I understand how you feel. I just wish the doctors would be careful when prescibing medicines for us because our bodies or extremely vunerable to illness.

((((((Fran)))))))), hi sweetie, I'm sorry you are having so much trouble with your meds. Unfortunately like Barb said plaq. does take a long time to start working and even when it does it's such a suttle thing. At least for me it was all of the sudden I realized I wasn't feeling so crappy all of the time. Unfortunately I have been on it for a year and it was really helping than 3 weeks ago I got sick went in hospital. They didn't give it to me. Now I have to start all over and my tummy isn't tolerating it. I never had that problem before. I hope it's just a left over sick stomach and it goes away soon so I can get back on the plaq again.

Hi Fran, I was just wondering how you were doing after your allergic episode? are you adjusting to the plaq. I know it takes a long time to work and I truly wish there was a way to get it to kick in faster for ya. Anyway I was concerned after your allergy and wanted to see how you were feeling.
