I ran into a little trouble these last few days, which have been really busy.  On Saturday, there was an event in Des Moines that I had tickets to go see with my mom and a friend.  Right before the event started it started to freezing rain and by the time everything was over, the freezing rain had gotten worse and there was no way we could get home (it's an hour and a half drive), so we had to get a hotel.  I usually carry extra meds in my purse, but I must have used some of them at some time.  So I didn't have my plaquenil or my night time meds to help with sleep, headaches, and neuropathy.  Thankfully I did have some extra prednisone that I was able to take the next morning.

We made it home yesterday and I really crashed and went to bed super early.  I still feel rough today and didn't get to rest a lot because my daughter woke up with the flu and had to stay home from school today.  I'm kind of frustrated because I had been doing pretty well and had even been successfully tapering my prednisone (very slowly).  I learned my lesson about always making sure I have extra of all my meds with me.

It looks like we are going to get another ice storm tonight - this has been quite a winter so far.

Ack, we're getting the freezing rain and ice storms as well. It's been a horrid pain in more ways then one. I hope you get to feeling better soon, and you get some good rest in. I know it's pretty discouraging when you're doing pretty well, then the weather or something causes a flare up.
God Bless.

Hey Hippi,

Oh man..... I learned the hard way with that too.  I now keep two days worth of meds in my purse at all times.  You just never know.  I hope you're feeling well really soon.  I'm sorry you had to go through that. I"m sure you were feeling pretty anxious about not having your meds.  I don't think I'd have slept!

I'm glad you're home safe and sound.  I think this is a good thing for all of us to remember.  Keep extra meds with us!  Thanks for sharing Hippi,

Blessings,
Ginny

Hi Hippi.  Are you feeling any better today?  Although we could use the precipitation here in Atlanta, I'm glad we don't have the ice.  I know that was really stressful for you, not to mention the meds.  I went to my rheumy last Friday and had a steriod injection to try to pull me out of this flare.  The injection has been a big help, but I still don't feel well.  I hope you're resting comfortably.  Love, Butterflake

We got another huge ice storm. I'm actually on a computer at a hotel right now. Our power went out yesterday morning and we toughed it out yesterday and last night, but left for a hotel late this morning when the temps got below 50 degrees in our house. We are in southern Iowa which is the part of the state that got hit the hardest and almost no one south of Des Moines has power. The latest we heard is that there will not be power where we live for another 3 days. It's very stressfull because the cost of a hotel will add up quickly. I can't even describe what our house and yard looks like. There are trees down all over the place - it looks like a bomb went off in our yard.

With all the stress of the storm and no power and all the work of cleaning up, it will be amazing if I get through this without flaring. At least this time I have all my meds with me :)

Sounds like a real mess up there -- wish I could send you some extra energy or a yard cleanup crew -- but all I have are good thoughts & wishes for you & your family.

Just remember to "keep you head where your butt is" -- basically means don't worry about anything except that which is right in front of you.

Hippi,
So sorry to hear you were hit so hard by the ice storm. We are in the Chicago area but fortunately escaped the worst of it. However, many years ago when we lived in central IL, we went through an awful, awful ice storm. We were without power for a week and our daughter was on a formula that had to have boiled water to mix due to allergies. (Nursing hadn't worked out due to the fact we both came home with staph infections acquired in the hospital. I made SURE it worked out with daughter#2!)
As you said, the destruction is unbelievable. Ice storms still give me shivers up and down my spine. Be assured you will get through it and tell the tale to your kids when they are grown and only remember the excitement of going to a motel! Good luck and don't overdo.
