I just wanted to let everyone know that we got hit really hard by an ice storm in southern Iowa and we might not have power for a few more days.  I'm actually at a hotel right now, but am not sure how many nights we can afford to stay here.  The latest we heard is that it might be 3 more days before power is back on in our little town.  Then we have the task of cleaning up our house and yard - it looks like a war zone with almost every tree either down or with major limb loss.  We're not sure about any damage that might have been done to our house.  We're hoping the pipes don't freeze while we are gone.  While we are at the hotel I can get online sometimes, but at home I'm going to be busy trying to help clean up and recover from the storm and also trying not to flare.  Hopefully this will all be over soon.
Diagnosis:  UCTD (lupus) 2006; Raynauds 2006; Sjogren's 2006; lupus symptoms began 2003; CFS 1991; Mono 1985
Meds:  Plaquenil 400mg; Prednisone 5-10mg; Tramadol 100mg 3-4x daily; Doxepin 25-50mg; Prevacid; Steriod Cream and Mouth Rinse for tongue and mouth ulcers; Hydrocodone 5/500 prn for severe pain; Artificial tears

Hippi,
Bless your heart! From what I've seen on tv that storm is awful. I'm sorry to hear your home has been affected. My heart goes out to everyone that was hit by that storm.
I know its hard not to worry about your home, but try not to throw yourself in a bad flare. Hopefully, the damage is not as bad as it may look. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Hippi.  Wow, I'm sorry you got hit by another ice storm.  Years ago when I was a single Mom living in Missouri we had an ice storm and it was a bear to clean up.  I didn't have Lupus then.  Try to really take your time with the clean up.  Those branches can just stay there.  Even if you only move a few each week until Spring, it will eventually get done!  Keep the flare at bay.  Love, Donna

Take care of you Hippi!!!!  I keep seeing all the news stories about these storms.  They're insane.  We'll hold down the fort here!  Keep us posted as you can okay..

Ginny,

I'm still reading (moderating), just not posting too much. It was a sunny 78 degrees today, so I'm pretty sure no ice storms are going to put me out of business anytime soon!

Thanks for the offer, though, we'll remember you're back there on the "reserve team"! We also have a 4th mod who I haven't seen recently & who's name I can't recall at the moment.....

Cheers,

Oh good grief hippi! It sounds like the one that came through here the other night. I sure hope this is not a sign of things to come with the weather this year. I was told that we weren't supposed to have a bad winter but I'm beginning to have second thoughts about it. The say animals will get big when the weather is going to get cold and my dog gained about 10lbs in 3 weeks. He doesn't have a heavy coat so it's all winter fat.
I hope you have enough meds with ya and you and family do ok getting thru this miss. Let us know when you can and stay under the covers!
love ya

Thanks everyone. We are going to spend one mroe night at the hotel and then head home tomorrow. The latest we heard is that it could still be 3-5 more days before power is back on in our rural area. My husband's boss offered us a small generator that we can hook up to our heater and it wil run for about 10 hours before it needs to be filled up again. It's so small that it could probably just run our heater and not the lights, but we have candles.

All of this is taking it's toll on me. I'm starting to feel pretty bad now with both my pain and fatigue. No one has slept well, so I'm sure that's part of it. After we leave here tomorrow it might be a few days before I get back online again.

Hopfully getting back in your home and your own bed with help you to relax a little. Make sure you all get showers while you are at the motel since you probably won't have hot water when you get home. Bless yur heart I hope you don't wind up sick in a flare for the next month after this. I'm considering buying a generator for this place. I have gas heat but all that means is I can light the gas stove. which will oly heat up the kitchen area since the gas furnace still needs electric to blow. I just pray no more storms and let us know when your power gets back on.

love ya

Hi Hippi;

Sorry I've not responded sooner. I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with all of this. Like Carol said maybe once you're back in your own home you'll be able to relax more and sleep better. I'm thankful that your husband's boss offered you the generator to use. Try to rest as much as you can, if things need to sit for a day or so then let it sit. I'm thinking of you and your family, you'll be in my prayers.

Love,
Barb

So sorry to hear of your troubles, hippi! My prayers are coming your way! I heard your area has been designated a disaster-area so maybe some of the clean-up will be taken care of for you? We live in a rural area, too, and I was worried about power problems. We just missed the worst of it, though, and we had two days of no school due to ice on the roads. Stay warm sweetie!
Prayers,

Hippi,

I had no idea that it had gotten so bad in your area. I'm so sorry and sad for you. My first thought was that all the extra work and stress will send you into a flare and you sure don't need that right before Christmas. Promise you'll take care of yourself and let everyone else do the work and the clean-up. Your family needs for you to stay healthy and so do we!

Hang in there girl, and I'll pray for power.

Love ya,

Pat

Thanks Ginny . . . I've been peeking in here, but not posting much. I've been WAY busy here at home. Pups are gone, but I've been catching up with the house and Christmas and made many meals for the freezer and delivered to our ill relatives. *phewwww* Its a way that I can help w/o spending hours too much energy helping at their homes. I just double or quadruple up on meals and freeze some.

Hippi . . .I hope you are home and in your own bed!! Worried about you sis!!! Warming up that wonderful tea that Ginny sent and setting a cup on your nightstand with some hot soup and fresh buttered bread.

Blessings!
