In a previous post, I said that last night was pretty rough for me.. I have lyme/babesia.. only being treated for lyme right now... I couldn't get a good breath and my heart was racing... Today I still don't feel right.. I just feel like I'm not having normal breathing... This happened earlier on in the treatment of lyme, but it went away.. During that time, I had an EKG which was normal and it was dismissed as part of lyme.. it's just scary.. I feel like I have asthma..normal??

Hi hezzer926.  I am sorry your symptoms are so intense.   I have had the symptoms you describe from Babesiosis.  Make sure your doctor knows about this.  You may want to ask your doctor about treating the Babesiosis first.

Hang in there okay?

Hezzer926, Doxy does not treat Babesiosis.  You may want to consider getting another opinion.

That is what I've heard and I think the dr knows that as well .. She seems to come highly regarded as someone alot of people go to .. but for some reason, she doesnt want to start treating me for the babeosis yet... and when i complain, they say for now the high dose does treat it... she was saying how my titer was low for it yet still positive... very frustrating.. i live in nj and it seems alot of people do get positive results w/her...

I had the same thing happen to me... it scared the begeebees out of me.  We even called 911 one night... it was my second "attack" and I thought for sure I was having a heart attack.  I had a minor "blip" on my LLDr's EKG machine soon after... and it all snowballed into heart test "he!!".  I am very thankful though that there is nothing wrong with my heart and that I had the testing done and can rest easy on any heart problems for now.
I've had a few "attacks" since then and a few beginnings of an attack that dissipated before going full blown.  I think I've figured out that it's more of a muscle spasm.  My rib cage tightens up and then barely releases and then tightens up again and after a few more times it all goes back to normal for a breath or two... then it's all repeated for approx. 15 to 20 minutes.  It's very scary, but the best remedy I've been able to come up with is to drink cool water and lay face down of my bed with my head hanging a little over the edge.  I tell myself to take steady breaths and that it's just a cramp and will go away.
I hope this helps.  If you need more reassurance, I would suggest a check-up with a cardiologist whao can run the basic tests and help put your mind at ease.

hezzer926, from what I understand, Doxy does not treat Babesiosis.   It is similar to malaria.  It needs to be treated with an anti-malarial (often Mepron) together with a certain antibiotic (Zithromax, Biaxin, or Ketek).

You have asked your doctor about this, so I guess it depends on how you feel aobut it.  You could get another opinion and decide which is best for you.  Are you seeing one of the doctors in either West Caldwell or Jackson?

I'm having breath issues and sometimes I feel a stab in my left chest or dull pain. I take an aspirin because I'm scared I'm having a heart attack. It helps! Has anyone else experience Aspirin to help? I have gone to theER and they do all the heart work up and it's normal. Yet, I wonder why Aspirin helps. I'm kind of terrified.

Hi Alex, you didn't say in your other post that you had been to the ER. Lyme can cause heart symptoms - does your LLMD know about these symptoms? If not, please do get a hold of them as soon as they reopen after Christmas. This is definitely something they need to know about.

You said you had a heart work up in your other thread and things were okay 2 years ago - did you have Lyme 2 years ago as well?

Aspirin may be working simply because of the placebo effect (sorry! No offense intended) - especially if it's a more serious anxiety attack. I've had many anxiety attacks that would make my heart get all funky, and I'd sweat and shake. It was miserable.

Aspirin is also an anti inflammatory and blocks enzymes that might be created that would send signals of some forms of pain, including cramps. I get cramps/muscle spasms in my chest area sometimes that seem to mimic what I imagine a heart attack would feel like.

When that happens a person does have a tendency to feel frightened, thereby increasing the tension in the chest wall, and the body responds in a way that triggers your fight or flight response(panic attack).

I do the same thing you do, but only because after 30 years of running to the e.r., I am now 65 and I figure chewing a low dose aspirin while I assess the situation can't hurt.

I am definetly going to call my Dr tomorrow morning. They believe I have Lyme for years. So, yes I was having symptoms when I got my heart work up. Thank you. I have a history with panic attacks but because I have read a lot about Lyme bacteri affecting your heart my mind keeps focusing on that.

I'm in the DC area. Anyone know of support groups?

I have Babesia and I have the asthma which goes away if I just do deep breathing (which means IMO that it can't be real asthma). I also have a history of panic attacks which I think is also Lyme related. I've been doing this technique called the 4-sided breath when I need to calm myself down and it's very helpful. Also, when I was having a panic attacks, my therapist said to just say to myself "okay, you might be dying, but let's just count to 10 and then worry about it. It really helped me avoid a full blown attack and/or the ER!
