Forgive me if you guys have already covered this topic... I've been very "absent" for over a month....

Have you seen the new AARP commercial about Health Insurance?  I believe it is sponsored by AARP and/or DividedWeFail (the symbol is half an elephant and half a jack-ass).... anyway, the theme of the commercial is about people who HAVE health insurance and then got sick and wound up owing over $50,000.00... or having to file bankruptcy... or losing their houses, etc.  The commercial is summed up in the end by "If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't do anything differently.  I HAD health insurance.  I thought I had GOOD health insurance."

The women who is telling her story appears to be a young looking woman in her early 30's, maybe late 20's describing how she had a great life, etc. and then got Lyme Disease.  And now "I'm over $50,000.00 in debt."

I just think it is WONDERFUL that the message about Lyme Disease got out in such a prominant manner, during polital season when LOT'S of people are watching the stations this ad is being played on.  And, they took it from a cost and insurance point of view... it just wasn't the disease itself being "showcased".... almost as if "Lyme disease" is becoming a more mainstream medical condition that the public "gets"... what they don't "get" is why the insurance companys are not paying for the medical treatment needed to fight and cure this disease.

I needed this lift.... it's a really well done ad.

Hope everyone is doing well.  I hope to get back to some type of life soon.  I am on day 3 of week 7 IV Rocephin.... as a matter of fact, I'm hooked up to the IV right now.  I have to stay awake long enough to finish the routine! rolleyes   smilewinkgrin   rolleyes

Hi JELAINEP.  There was a recent post about this at http://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=30&m=1250929

I think it is a great ad also.  I saw it on CNN.  Someone told me they saw it on FOX yesterday.

I hope the Rocephin kicks Bb bootie!

I just saw it last night on MSNBC. It is wonderful. It defninitely makes the assumption that Lyme is a very serious illness, despite what the mainstream medical community thinks! I love it!

Since I was diagnosed in July it seems like Lyme has gotten a lot of press. It was on Good Morning America (or was it the Today Show? ...that's my memory again) the person interviewed works for Self magazine and had written an article called "Ticked Off". There was also an article in Psychology Today. My mom sent me an article from a newspaper in Florida. There was also the show on The Learning Channel that featured the woman who was misdiagnosed for years and was discussed on another thread. These weren't small insignificant articles. The more people read, hear, and see the less ignorant they will be.

Don't know how you can find a clip of it online, but I know it was on CNN last night at practically every commercial break. Maybe they'll keep airing it a lot. The first time I saw that commercial I was at a bar with my friends, and my jaw just dropped. I was like, "Did you all see that????!!!" They, of course, didn't grasp the significance of it. Oh well. Good press for lyme!
Lyme and co-infections since approximately 2002. Diagnosed in 2005. Treated for two years solid. Diagnosed with Lymphomatoid Papulosis in October 2007. Currently back on abx.

I saw this last night when I was watching Election coverage. I said "wait a minute, did she just say Lyme?" It's definitely a good thing to get out there! I hope they re-air it on more stations.

Hi Jelaine P!
I sure hope you are doing okay.  I know I have not been on here much, its almost impossible with my schedule.

Do you know that I often think about you and do recall when you wanted to help Marie from Canada and have her stay with you? I will never forget your big heart!

Did you also know that it was Leslie, who passed away, along with Tracie that flew Marie to a doctor in California and she is slowly making progress?

I hope you are okay. Write me anytime at robinox@comcast.net and let me know how you are.

Hugs,

Robin
