I've been putting off this oral surgery forever but I am getting it done tomorrow. I am so scared!

I decided not to take any sedation, just novicaine without epinephrine. I'm just scared I'm going to be allergic to something or my Lyme symptoms will act up.

How do you guys handle dental work? Any problems?

Be very careful as one dental visit put my body into a complete downhill slide. Doc said it was the bacteria that was stirred up during the surgery (root canal). My immune system was down and I could not handle it and also did not heal well.

Hi Dowa - I'm sorry you had that experience. I am afraid of that. Unfortunately, I'm living on Advil from all the pain with this tooth, so it needs to come out. The infection is probably causing my immune system to be even worse. I'm waiting until it heals to get an implant (it's in the back of my mouth luckily). What were your symptoms so I know what to look for?

Hi KeepHope - I have lots of PVC's, but no MVP has ever showed up on an Echo. I told him about my PVC's and the possibility that I have pulmonary hypertension. He said he didn't want me to be under general sedation for this reason.

It looks like I will have to reschedule because I only got a couple hours of sleep and woke up with a red and swollen throat. I just wanted to get this over with.

Bella, you'll do fine. The anxiety is worse than the lyme right now.

Breath and you will do PERFECT! You're a tough cookie and don't let the worry become worse than the illness

and and yes, I'm a HUGE turkey when it comes to the dentist :-)

One thing to help deal with stress from surgery is a Bach Floral Remedy called Rescue Remedy. You can apply it topically to your temples & wrists, or take drops under your tongue, or put drops in a glass of water to sip on. It helps with stressful situations, and I was using it recently to help with pain from a surgical procedure and it did help. You can get Rescue Remedy online or in some health food stores, and I've even seen it in some drug stores.

I also went through wisdom teeth extraction surgery without using traditional pain medications. I used homeopathic remedies instead, and the surgeon was quite impressed with how quickly and how well I healed. Starting the night before surgery, I took homeopathic Phosphorus (for bleeding, specifically for tooth extraction-related symptoms), homeopathic Arnica (for shock & pain), and homeopathic Hypericum (for nerve pain, specifically for pain from tooth extraction). I repeated these three the morning of the surgery. Then, after surgery, I rotated through the same remedies as often as needed (can be taken every 5 minutes if necessary). By the second day, my pain was significantly decreased, and it was gone by the 3rd day. The bleeding stopped the first day. By the 4th day, you wouldn't know I had had the teeth extracted (two of them were impacted, so it wasn't a simple teeth pulling). My Brother did not do the homeopathy and he had a significantly more difficult recovery from his wisdom teeth surgery.

Take care,

Hi Peacesoul - Thank you for the kind words! I ended up having to cancel because the dentist didn't want to work on me with a sore throat and cough. It's rescheduled for next Friday.

Hi Razzle - Thank you so much for listing all of those herbs. I will definitely be trying some of that because I want this process to go as smoothly as possible.

I just want to clarify that Homeopathy is NOT herbs.  Homeopathy can be derived from herbs, but the action of the homeopathic version and the herbal version is not the same.  To find out more about homeopathy, check out the following (I have no financial connection with these websites or their content):

Well, I'm going today at 11:30 a.m.! This pain is just way too much and nothing is touching it, so I'm not able to wait until Friday.

Unfortunately that means I wasn't able to get the homeopathic remedies that Razzle recommended in time. I'm praying everything goes smoothly and I will update this when I get back.

I'm back! I'm in a lot of pain, bleeding a lot, and of course, I'm having heart issues (chest vibrations when I lay on my left side). No fun!
