I know women who were safely treated with amoxy while pregnant. Jeminji who posts here was treated with this during her pregnancy. I don't think she was on it until she found out she was pregnant (if I remember correctly).

Dr. J in CT recommends either omnicef or ceftin combined with zithromax.

Everything will be fine!

Are you against taking abx. while pregnant?

I plan on getting pregnant next year. I am off abx. now to give my body a break before going back on them for a pregnancy. You will be fine.....

AND CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

Hi lita.   First, congratulations!

It is my understanding that a woman who has Lyme and is pregnant should be treated with a safe antibiotic throughout the pregnancy to minimize transmission.  Dr. J. is an expert on congenital Lyme.  I highly recommend calling his office.  If you need his number, you can email me.  At delivery, the baby and placenta can be tested.

Let us know what you find out.  You will be a great mom!

Congratulations! You are going to be fine and so will your baby. I have an 8 month old little girl who is so happy and so healthy. She is amazing. I too was "surprised" to find out I was pregnant and I was terrified as I had just stopped abx about a month prior to finding out I was pregnant. I actually thought my lyme was getting worse not knowing I was indeed pregnant. My lyme doc put me on amox. throughout the pregnancy and while breastfeeding. I did have a very sick pregnancy. It wasn't easy, but so did my mother so not sure if it was lyme related or not. I have to say too that after having the baby, I felt great and while breatfeeding I felt amazing. It was a nice break from being so sick for 9 months and not counting the treating of the lyme previous. I was diagnoed with lyme 10 years ago so I worried terribly that I would pass it on the fetus. I saw another specialist as well and all 3 of my doctors assured me that I would not pass it on to her. I did have her tested at about 5 months and she was fine. I will continue to have her tested and keep my eyes open for symptoms, but she couldn't be a better baby.

Good luck and I wish you all the best. She is the best thing to have ever happened to me. Some days now are a little harder than others as I do get sick from time to time and likely still have to treat some lyme symptoms which sucks when you have a little one to take care of, but it is all worth it. It just makes you want to work that much harder to stay well.

Congrats again.

lita, did you get my email?

I agree that it is important to start treatment as soon as possible and to consult with an experienced doctor.  Ask Dr. J's office to let you know if there are any cancellations.  You may be able to speak with him sooner this way.

Hi lita.  I cannot understand Dr. P. agreeing to this.  Maybe you could call tonight and leave a message for him to call you back.

lita, I am sorry you are so upset and that your husband is not there.  Hopefully the doctor will get in touch with you over the weekend, and you can tell him your concerns.

You are doing everything you can, so please try not to worry.

Will they put you on amoxicillin? It seems to be the safest during pregnancy and it is what I took throughout with very good results.

I also got better on Biaxin/plaq combo. I took it for 2 1/2 years, but it did work wonders for me as well.

hey lita how are you feeling?
The Dr. at my clinic deals with pregant women alot . And I would give him a try, asap.
I am at the Envita clinic in Scottsdale AZ. DR K.
I don't want to talk to you about any treatment exaclty. But that you should not waste your time with a Dr. who tells you that your lyme is not in your blood. wow...
Beyond dumb.
Lyme passes throught the palcenta and through breast milk. And lyme also does some other things to your blood that are not good for the baby.
Give them a call here.
2004 in Martha's Vineyard me and my two daughters then 11 mos and 6 all got Lyme Disease. This was only known to us because we found the tiny ticks on us and we got very ill. My dog also got lyme and he went lame.
We have fought it for 4 years to no avail.
We all got it again this summer is Texas.
I am now in treatment in Scottsdale Arizona at Envita.

I too am wondering how you are feeling and how the pregnancy is going for you.

I hope all is well!

I am going to try to get pregnant around the middle of this year.
