I have been doing very well on Zhang's herbs mostly - so well I haven't visited this site very much.  But I began to have hot flashes about two months ago.  I get a little sick about once a month but this last month was worse.  Maybe it is because I started the herbal mixuture R5081 in addition to coptis and I was herxing.  I don't understand the hot flashes.  I have hot flashes every two hours at night and I am not sleeping very well.  I wake up and about three minutes later the flash comes.

Yes, I typically get at least one an hour during my waking hours - followed by chills. During the night, I usually get two or three, but they don't disrupt my sleep too much. I don't associate it with the Lyme since I started getting them before I got sick. The only thing Ive noticed that makes them worse for sure is caffiene and wine. Since I drink very little of these anymore, they are better but still there.

Oooohhhh boy...I just started within the past 2 months getting these. Only from my chest up.

I personally think it is my "age" and that time in my life...uugghhh. All I needed added onto Lyme!

It is confusing if it might be hot flashes related to estrogen levels. I went through menopause years ago but have been on bioidentical hormones. I cut back the estrogen to 1 mg. Maybe that is it. I raised it back up again to see if they would go away.
I only have caffiene (tea) in early morning and don't drink, but I bet that would make it worse for me too as I am very sensitive to caffiene.
My ability to fall asleep and stay asleep has also gotten much worse.

So frustrating to figure out what is what.

The hot flashes are Babesiosis, neffer.  I'm 25 now and started getting them in the acute phase of Babs two years ago.  Now I only get them when I'm taking something that's beating up on the Babs to some degree. My estrogen levels are normal.  Some neurological disorders, like MS, cause hot flashes.

I respectfully disagree Sulma.

YES it can be from Babs, but Babs IS NOT the only thing that can be causing this issue.

Very well could be where the estrogen was cut back. We cannot always blame everything on Lyme and co's.

While Lyme and co's seem to bring on plenty of other health issues, we still need to be aware that it could be something else causing our problems as well. Even normal healthy people can have some type of health issue!

Yes, on and off for YEARS... and I've had my hormone levels follwed and it's not pre-menopausal...... it just feels like it........ whch means I'll probably get well just in time to go through "real" meno-pause............ my sense of timing has ALWAYS sucked.

Neffer mentioned "hot flashes...at night", but lead me to believe she saying she only gets them while in bed. That's more suggestive of Babesiosis than post menopausal issues.

Check your temperature. Get one of those handy ones to put next to your bed. Are you running a fever? I had chills and sweats for 3 mos before I got to my new treatment.
I had my a/c on 68 and was still sweating all day. Could not wear the same outfit for more than 2 hours, would sweat thought them.
Like Sulma said have your hormones checked. Mine were fine.
Do you have the headache with it all? I did.
Oh you get these once a month...ok..never mind. I had them everyday...all day...lol...
Well if this happens once a month check your calender. It might be right before your cycle begins. When everything go nuts anyways. lol..:>)
2004 in Martha's Vineyard me and my two daughters then 11 mos and 6 all got Lyme Disease. This was only known to us because we found the tiny ticks on us and we got very ill. My dog also got lyme and he went lame.
We have fought it for 4 years to no avail.
We all got it again this summer is Texas.
I am now in treatment in Scottsdale Arizona at Envita.

Thanks for your input everyone. I ordered the test for Babesiosis from IGENEX because I have been worried about that and Bart. I also am not sleeping and it is getting worse and worse. I often wake up minutes before the hot flash starts. My brain knows in advance what is going to happen. I raised my estrogen levels up to see if I can put a dent in them. I will take my temperature. I don't believe I have ever had a fever. When I was the sickest and went to the doctor (over and over) my temperature was always subnormal. My eyes are dry and not getting better so I wonder about that being a co infection that is not being helped with the lyme treatement. I am worried it could be bart because those hot flashes are not supposed to be as bad as babesiosis and I have not been sweating badly - just some.  My chills are different as they are isolated to just one part of my body and very rare.  I get them on my left thigh.  I do feel cold a lot - either cold or hot.
I also have pain every evening in my shins - but never the soles of my feet. I hope I don't have anything else. I am worn out already.

I tried artemesia which Zhang gives for babesiosis and HH for bart. I could not sleep at all and quit. That really worries me too. I am so tired I am must quitting everything I take for a couple of days to see if I can get any relief. Zhang's Herbsom was working well for occasional sleeplessness but last night I took 4 of them as well as L Tryptophan and only slept a few hours. I also urinate a lot at night - sometimes up to 4 times. I noticed many of the herbs are diuretic.
