I for one, have yet to try antibiotics due to an unhealthy liver and immune system. After joining this forum I thought I would learn about which meds to use if and/or when, my body could handle them. I was just astonished at the several different combinations of medications that you are all taking, and some for the same infection. Can anyone tell me why there is not just ONE medication to use that would be effective? There are people here with, for example, bartonella (which I have ) and the meds are all different. Is this combo of medication the doctors call ?? Thanks...D

My understanding is that not only are there different and more virulent strains, but also individual response varies. There are many other reasons, and hopefully someone will come along shortly and share their knowledge, since my recall and memory have been depleted by Lyme disease.

Have you read Dr. Burrascano's guidelines? I think you can access the guidelines through the ilads website: www.ilads.org

think its because lyme can be a though thing; the main challenge is finding the right combi individually - according to different strains, resistance, side effect of the abx used, the shape of ones immune system, how long and bad one has been ill.
then there are bacteria in everybody which are harmless themselves, but have different capabilities when getting in touch with abx, some are able to produce substances which make abx of some types noneffective; and there is this eerie ability of the borellia to chance into and out of cystic forms.
a big challence for treatment.
I wish you all the best for treatment and that you will recover completely!

Thank you both for replying. I must say, I am scared to do abx as there are so many people here who are having problems tolerating them and are actually feeling worse. I live alone, and need to be able to take care of myself. Its hard to know what to do... Thanks  D

Hi Dowa,

If you really want to destroy your liver and worsen your immune system, the worst thing you could do is take chemical antibiotics as they will harm you more.

I suggest going the natural route as I did.  Read books and learn as there are many good books out there such as Healing Lyme by Stephen Buhner (can be bought at amazon.com), then the protocol I used from Dr. Jernigan's book "Beating Lyme Disease" which can be bought below:

Before taking any medicines or botanicals, try to build up your immune system first.  Take immune boosting supplements (I personally like Green Vibrance), and detox like crazy on a daily basis.

In the Newbie Section on top of this forum there is a long post that I wrote about detoxing.   That will also build up your immune system.

It really doesn't matter about the strains of the bacteria's (I believe there are strains that haven't been identified yet).  It's all about a strong immune system so one's body can kill all these strains by itself.

Hope this helps,
Denise
It's all about the Immune System mixed with a large dose of Positive Thinking and Daily Detoxing

This song is about my years with chronic lyme since 1995 and being in remission for over 3 years:

So then you are in a similar position like I am; I am waiting for the results of the co- infection test and will see the L- doc but sometimes I wonder if I really should go and start with abx; ok there is my skin problem - which seems to calm down right now or is just willing to give me a rest for some time; maybe because I did a lot of detoxing;
but if I should make the abx - yes / no - decision according to my inner instinct .....I don´t know!! maybe I will start with the pineapple enzyms, I had such a good success some years ago using them for my knee which was hurting like crazy; it took months but I got completely rid of those symtoms /pain and I had the feeling there was a real healing.
Best of luck to you, Dowa!
