I had written about this previously but now I'm at a loss for what to do...

I went to Dr R in ny a few weeks ago.. Due to muscle testing, he switched me off mepron and put me on malarone.. he said the main thing i was struggling w/now was bartonella...

For about a week now, I have been experiencing painful headaches at the base of my skull.. I'm just confused as to if these are actually a bartonella herx or the babesia creeping back.. I thought maybe the rifampin I have been taking for bartonella can now be more effective since it is not being used in combination with the stronger mepron.. I should also note that as of a few days ago, I developed a pimple like rash on my forehead.. die off, maybe?

I also am unsure, however if maybe these headaches at the base of my skull are because I'm not on mepron anymore and the malarone isn't strong enough. I read on various sites that these headaches are babesia related...

I have the mepron on hand and can switch off malarone if need be, but I dont want to halt bartonella progress if thats whats happening

Any insight would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi hezzer926.  What dose of Malarone are you taking?  Rifampin can interfere with the absorption of Malarone.  Did DR. R. discuss this with you?

How long have you been on the new protocol?  Do you think you could be herxing?  Did you experience the same type of headache previously from Babesiosis?

I am only taking one malarone pill... i think its says 250-100 mg... so it nowhere near the 2 teaspoons of mepron .. I have been on this protocol for 3 weeks this Wednesday.. I experienced these headaches back in November before I was treating babesia properly.. i was on plaquenil and arteminisin from another doctor.. but these went away while on the mepron

hezzer926, I wonder why your doctor is only prescribing one Malarone daily.  From what I understand, Rifampin can decrease it's effectiveness by as much as 50%.  You may want to talk with your doctor about this.

If this is the same type of headache that you had from Babesiosis before, it may be from it now.  I suggest calling your doctor to let him/her know what you are experiencing.

What muscle testing did you get?????

Just for your information I too have been experiencing the exact same threat of headaches of babesia ect returning because I have been on malerone with rifampin along with minocycline. I decided last night to go back on 1 tsp.Mepron and 1 malerone 2 x day and give up the rifampin so it can work better and already feel better. Not one headache today for the first time in a few weeks. Don't know if it will last but will try this til I go cack to LLMD next month. Can't afford to go sooner. Blessings

I am gonna stop the malarone .. I don't want to stop the rifampin because I am battling bartonella also .. hopefully my headaches will go away.. they are so irritating...my neck also cracks when i move it around .. everything is so stiff back there!
