I tested negative for co's at Igenex over a year ago. Also I was on abx. at the time. I was thinking of having more tests done at this point because i'm not getting very far with treatment. I've been off all meds. for 9 days now. I thought it would be a good time if I was going to do more testing. What do you think? Where is the best place for testing co-infections?
What do most LLMD's recomend? Do they treat everything just in case even with a negative?
My ID doctor is not an expert on co's and he does not really talk about them. He did let me try rifampin for 5 mos. It seemed to help but I stopped due to stomach pain. It just seems that i'm not making much progress anymore and am getting worse again. This is so frustrating. I just had my picc line pulled because of arm pain after 6 mos. also. He has called me in bicillin shots (one a week) i'm not sure if I should start them though. I have herd that 1 a week is not enough.
I'm just not sure where to go from here. Any ideas? Thanks  rolleyes   rolleyes   rolleyes

Hi georgiagirl.  I am sorry you are feeling worse.

Sometimes when progress stops or is not made, it is because of co-infections.  Many Lyme doctors use IgeneX for testing, but I know there are also other labs.

What are the main symptoms you are having?

Hi georgiagirl.  To me, some of your symptoms sound like they could be from Babesiosis.  I think it may be a good idea to be retested for the co-infections.

ticker, I forgot to mention that I have had night sweats occationally, I would have to get up and change my clothes, not a good feeling.
I wish the testing wasen't so expensive. Have you herd of Clongen Labs? I talked to someone there yesterday and he said that their tests are more sensative than Igenex, is that true? I'm going to call back yoday and get more details.

georgiagirl, it sounds like you could be dealing with Babesiosis.  Night sweats is one of the hallmark symptoms and some of your other symptoms could be from it also.

I am not familiar with Clongen Labs.  You may want to start another post about the lab so that people who have been tested there can comment.

I hope you can get answers soon.

If you are stuck consider antibiotic resistance and consider adding in herbs (Nutramedix/ Dr Zhang). Symptoms are way more important than lab tests but see my entry "what's working for me".......These bugs are tricky, they can become partially treated and lay dormant. I think using multiple herbs with antibiotics can be helpful-- I have been on artemesin fro 1 year, with una de gato (treats cysts) with pulses of flagy (treats Lyme cysts and can hit some Babesia. Bart is sneakiest but sounds like you have some as Rifampicin worked for a while-- Bart is very resistant to antibiotics- so I am going to do Zhang herbs for my Bart and consider Rifampicin. Good luck.
