idea  There is a lot of fear concerning lyme and its co infections. Since we do not all live in a bubble and since most of us go outdoors or have a dog.
And there is almost no way to aviod mosquitos everyday of your entire life..
I believe that everyone has lyme disease. But due to everyone's different immune sytem and eating habits..and smokers and so on.
It effects some people much worse than others. Surgery, having babies, stress, a bad diet, and in my case, repeat infections every summer in my garden in Martha's Vineyard. I had deer on my porch even.
But it was not till the summer of 04 that it knocked me off of my feet. And that was right after I had a baby at 40.
Then I had a couple of sugeries and it got worse. My immune system was weakened more.
If you want to get well. You need to cleanse your body of all of the toxins in your body. Mercury, pesticides, lyme, Herpes. and so on.
And once you take out all of this trash, your body will be able to handle some of the bacteria that is in there ruining everything.
You also need to "ARM" your immune system with things that will help it fight for itself.
Like a ton of supplements and vitamins. Simple things like Vit. C and fish oil. and many others.
I gave a huge list of all the things that they put me on.
If your blood is healthy, it is 9 times stronger than any abx. If you only try to kill everything in your body with abx, you are not going to get better. You are going to get much sicker. This is why long, long periodes of taking abx have not worked for anyone on this site..without..replapsing.
The body may need a boost to get itself back in oder. I was getting re infected all the time. I had 5 dogs.
I grew up on a horse with over 400 of them. I have always been an out door person and I am going to contiue to.
If you are able to get EDTA treamtment in your area...that is what you should be looking for. It will clean out your body of all toxins.
Mercury, and pesticides, and the body stores them all of your life. So it is good to rid yourself of them.
Think about cleaning your body out..taking out the trash if you will, and giving it fertilizer to help it grow and fight.
I am still a big gardener...now I can do it again. And if you think as your body as a plant. We are both like what...95 % Water.
So try growing two plants, in one container put it in great soil and the other...just dirt..and water one every day and skip the other some days. You will see a huge difference in the two plants..in less that a week.
Huge...so think of your self as the poor little tomatoe plant.
You would not serve it well to pour pesticides on it every day to help it grow fruit.
But if you give it sun..and water and good soill and even so far as to give it fertalizer..well...then you have a beautfil plant that is able to deal with the bugs that land on it.
:>)

2004 in Martha's Vineyard me and my two daughters then 11 mos and 6 all got Lyme Disease. This was only known to us because we found the tiny ticks on us and we got very ill. My dog also got lyme and he went lame.
We have fought it for 4 years to no avail.
We all got it again this summer is Texas.
I am now in treatment in Scottsdale Arizona at Envita.

You will get your green thumb back. You know the chelation thing is what is one of the main things at Envita now for lyme. The main deal. Along with the vit. and if you want to start with the Ozone..my personal favorite. Not sure why really. Since when I first got there the sight of blood use to me really feel ill. But there I got used to it. Gosh you have to. And I would love the way my blood looked all bright and foamy and pumped up to put back. You know Claude? Who's wife is so sick with Lyme? Well Claude had 6 mos. of Chelation for something else..can't remember. But if was for some sort of toxic metal I think realted to his work. Anyways it could explain why he is not ill now from lyme and his wife is. And he found the therapy to be easy and it was hard for me. Can you get chelation where you are?

I heard about them doing just people's feet too. And that the water turns black. odd no. Now that I think of it. During my chelation my urine turned brown. I thought how odd. But I stayed in bed most of the time with acute nausea. It did not bother me till the 3 week and then it was like...slam! I would have trouble waking out of the place and had to get shots on my butt daily to keep me from throwing up. It helped it some..but it was still hard to get my butt back to the hotel. But darn it...yes I feel great. Finally. My plates on my car were o7...lol

so I have been busy getting my life back together.

Wow, 400 horses! That must have been fun. I have eight.
A friend emailed a copy of a letter sent out by John Hopkins to their cancer patients that says exactly what you are saying. Our immune systems break down and cannot get rid of the pests that are normally taken care of when we are in a healthy state. We keep ourselves healthy by taking care of our bodies eating well, exercising and avoiding toxins. JH recommends no sugar, no alcohol, no smoking, no red meat more aerobic exercise to increase oxygen flow, much more vegatables (juicing is good) and supplements like fish oil, magnesium, B complex, D (critical) and vitamin E.

Oh you lucky ones with all those horses!!!

I saw a documentary from Ginger Kathrens about the wild Mustangs in the
Rocky Mountains ......... it was hard to keep me sitting!!! I am so much in love with horses esp Mustangs and Appaloosas.

Yes yes I know... instead of sitting here and tingling with desire I should build up my immunse system... (LOL)

Have a nice weekend all!! dorit

Hey neffer,
I am on most of that stuff too. I had never taken all of the stuff before. Ever. I had gotten the wrong impression about vitamins a long time ago. I went to a vegeterian health spa once in Cuarmivaa mexico. And the people that were the sickest had to fast to get out all of the toxins from their vit. abuse...
Or so I thought. So it was my impression that taking tons of this stuff was bad for you.
You know this has all been a very emotionel esp. to ay the least. And to have so many people and my kids in the same condition is sometimes a bit over the top.
I was so scared and mad before. Really mad at my Dr.s who told me that there was no cronic lyme and that I had all this other stuff. And then the LLMDS who gave me tons of abx....that ended up almost killing me.
I was sick...but got so much worse in that I lost my mind on the abx. Herxing? Why not just call it dying. It feels the same. lol
I don't buyt the whole kill the backteria thing. It may help the day you find the bug...or whatever. Now I know that I caught is from my husband about 8 years ago too...over and over. He lives on Martha's Vineyard. But bet I got it at the ranch way before that. I lived on a horse. And with 400 of them. And even more cattle...well. Who knows how many times I got it.
But I think that the body finally has had enough. And with the pesticides and all of the other polution that we do not even know we have in our systems, like what is in our water...air...food...and so on.
It would seem that our bodies turn into a palce that has prisons with most of this stuff..locked up if you will....like lyme.
But then it gets get over filled...and then...whammo....a little hurricane and they, the criminals are all over the place running wild and making problems.
Well in that case killing them all would work...lol
Perhaps wrong analogy...lol
Well...lets see..but if the Island is well policed....then the bad guys can be put back into yet another cell...if you will.
Ok..barely got out of that pickle.
My Dr. here mad me so mad. But it would have been so much more helpful had he ever spent the time while I paid him 2,000 for 10 minutes of his dmn time...to tell me something like this..
Hey marie...your immune system is all screwed up now and over loaded..time to delete some files..to get you running smoothly again...
How about a nutritionist...how about a some chelatio therapy to gt all of that crap out of your body..
Hey about some supplemenst because you have alwasy been a bright gal who made more than me..but now you don't know how to drive your car..lol
How about some detoxing????
How about some proper meds to be able to make it so that I can function while I am trying to turn my health around.
But no>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
How about some ozone therapy? How about some helpful advice that woud help me get better???????????

You were very fortunate to be able to go to such a wonderful clinic and I appreciate everything that you have shared with others on the forum. The LLMD I saw has a homeopathic partner which is comforting. I was given a lot of supportive herbs and vitamins. I take huge amounts 4 times a day. My energy is coming back as well as my enthusiasm for doing things. Last month I did not want to ride my horses any more. Nothing mattered. I used to ride 2-3 horses every day. Now I am riding one horse most days and have plans to accomplish things with them for the first time in a long time. I also like to garden but I got to the point that taking care of everything was overwhelming and I was happy to see it all die. Now I want bees! I am not cured, that is for sure, but life is better. Taking care of yourself is like taking care of your garden. The weed seeds are always there but you take them out when they are tiny before they establish themselves and seed out. You have to be vigilant.

You are so rigth nefferdun.
I am glad that you are getting better. You will get there. It is not a fast process. Can you get chelation in your area?
That is the whole big thing at envita..that and supplements and ozone. But the chelation, edta is the only thing that they want to do now.
I would just go for that if I had to do it all over again..and go to a nutritionist and work on easing my mind and life.
I had quit my job and changed my life all around. I am in a very different place now. I am not going to give the same treatment that I got to my kids. I have learned enought about this whole process now. And drugs is not the way.
I think that homepathic and alternative and natural and very healthy are the only ways to build your immune system. Not through drugs.

Marie,

Thank you for your wisdom. I really believe that what you have said here puts everything in perspective. We must work on our whole mind and body in order to eliminate these microbes. Attacking the bugs with drugs is not enough. The immune system needs to be put back in balance.

I feel caught between a rock and a hard place with all of this. I have read chelation is out of the question if you have the old dental fillings. My mouth is full of them and they are not going anywhere. So that is out. Bacteria love an acid body, and antibiotics kill the Lyme, but make you acid feeding it while killing it. I try to do it without the antibiotics, but within weeks I begin to fall apart physically and emotionally. Dr weaned me off of them and have an appointment next week to see how it all went, but I fell apart big time this week--joints were killing me, head fogged, sleeping all the time, blurry vision, super depressed so I started taking them again before I couldn't take the stress of waking up and facing another day anymore. It got so bad so fast! So much for remission. I am so much better than I was 2 years ago where I could barely walk, but I cannot get my body to fight this on its own.

Hi ttlittlestar,

I understand the feeling.   I believe there is a rinse you can do using apple cider vinegar for your teeth..  I have come to understand that bad bacteria do love to live in the teeth and fillings.   I guess I am lucky?  idea

I lost most of my upper teeth when I was 17 years old (and I wore braces as a kid) from a bad accident (yeah, I was crossing a street when a speeding car ran me over).

I do believe it's all about the immune system and eating healthy as well as heavy detoxing in every form.  Are you on any detox regime?   The baths really draw out those poisons..  Foot baths too!

Marie, you crack me up with your analogies!  I love what you wrote about deleting the files, LOLOL!

Feel better,
Denise
It's all about the Immune System mixed with a large dose of Positive Thinking and Daily Detoxing

This song is about my years with chronic lyme since 1995 and being in remission for over 3 years:

Read some stuff about a hyperbaric chamber helping. They say you need 40 treatments in 8 weeks for Lyme. And of course insurance doesn't cover it. Why does insurance cover the things that don't work and won't cover what does help? Cost seem to range between $100-$200 per treatment.

Dear everyone... MANY, MANY PEOPLE GET BETTER!! Take it from me. People DO get well and antibiotics DO work. That's not to say that alot of the "other stuff" doesn't help. One of the biggest problems is that people, like me, rarely visit these forums after we are well. Therefore, it appears that everyone is struggling with treatment with no end in sight. As a previous patient, daughter of a patient, wife of a patient, mother of two patients, as well as the coordinator of the Lyme Care Center in NJ (now closed), I can attest to SUCCESS. My mom, unfortunately, went misdiagnosed with RA for nearly 40 years before being redx with LD, so she has some residual problems, although she is MUCH better. No doubt she would be dead by now otherwise. As for me and my two girls... Symptom-free and have been for just about 10 years now. My oldest had a MINOR relapse, about 9 months after finishing 2 years of abx, went back on for 6 months and has been fine ever since. I was on multiple orals for 21 months total. My oldest (10 when dx) was on for 20, off for 9, on for 6, and my youngest (5) was on for 18 months. They are now 25 and 20 and doing great. No symptoms, no residual problems, NOTHING. As for me, I am now 50. No health problems, in fact, my asthma (which I had since I was 3) resolved with LD treatment. I have spoken to thousands of LD patients during my many years with the LCC, and the majority do well, provided they get to the right dr and are compliant with their treatment.

It seems there is some confusion on many boards about the Jarisch-Herxheimer Reaction. The reason people experience this is because it is caused by the die off of bacteria. When the spirochete dies, it sheds its shell, which causes a toxin in the blood. (That's why you feel you are being poisoned, you kinda are, but in a good way). The bacteria can ONLY be killed as an active adult (in the blood stream), which occurs approximately every 28 days (hence the monthly Herx). The longer you are on treatment, the easier these should get. If you start back sliding, talk to your doc. It might be time to switch things up a bit.

Here's a few things that helped me and my girls...
Carb free diet (Atkins). The bacteria LOVES sugar and alcohol. Starve It!
Saunas (in between herxheimers). Bacteria cannot live in body temps over 101. Since most Lyme patient have a body temp of about 96 or 97, it can go on living because it is so difficult for your body to run a fever over 101.
Pulse dose Echinacea. 5 on/4 off worked for us.
Blue green Algae
Co-Q10 (helps cellular rejuvenation)
and don't forget Acidophillus (unless you like yeast, which can cause alot of the same symptoms as lyme) Many people take this at the same time as abx. They must be separated by at least one hour, otherwise, the abx will kill the friendly bacteria too.

Best of Luck to everyone and don't give up. I know its a roller coaster and its frustrating. But, rejoice. If you are on this site, chances are you at least FINALLY know what is wrong with you!!

DocsKat,
I totally agree - most people who are better don't post anymore. I am pretty much better now and I don't post much. Basically, lyme has been a major focus of my life for about 8 years, so it's a huge relief not to have to think about it much...and frequenting this board means thinking about it. So don't despair, people! There ARE lots of people out there who are better; you don't hear from them because they're off living their lives!
Lyme and co-infections since approximately 2002. Diagnosed in 2005. Treated for two years solid. Diagnosed with Lymphomatoid Papulosis in October 2007. Currently back on abx.

Hey doc. Slight correction. The lyme bacteria re produce every 28 days.
And most of them do not hang out in the blood stream. They go deep into body tissue and organs. I got better in 3 mos. not using oral abx. And two year treatments of abx are against the new England Journal of Medicine which actually sets the protical for the whole world.
Taking oral abx does not work. And if it did, I bet they would be giving it to everyone freely.

It is selfish to get better and tonot reach out to others who need help. I continue to help others everyday. I remember all too well how bad my life was.
But people need to realize that this is not something that you just "get rid" of. It has been around and will be around. And by living as healthy as you can, and keeping your immune system and mind as healthy as you can...you will be able to keep the bacteria and the viruses in control.
I am talking both of my kids to hawaii for three weeks.
And this will be my first vacation with them in a long time.
I am not on abx and I feel great. If I went on them and put my kids on them. We would all not be able to go anywhere.
The medical world has come along way with fighting bacteria.
They are better ways to arm your body that the old ways of doing things.

Marthasvinyard-I find your posts informative and interesting. I wish I could afford to go to Evita but can't. I began treatment detoxing and on herbals but due to increasing chemical sensitivities became allergic to them so went on antibiotics. I feel I definately have improved on antibiotics even though I do not like taking them. I have been gradually adding back the suppliments and have been OK However, not sure I can stay improved without antibiotics as whenever I went off I relapsed.

I hope to go on herbals soon according to my llmd. Do you have recommenrdations? Blessings

Minerals,
I don't know anything about Herbals remedies. But some of my buddies on here have had great success with it. And you could tap on them directly and they would be more than happy to share all of the info. with you. Try raw vegan. She just did the protical.
I understand that most cannot afford the clinic. And they do not treat children. So what I found to be the most interesting thing about the whole program there was how it had so much to do with our own diet, and mostly supplements. I am taking no less than 60 a day. I had never taken them before. But I guess if you want your jet to get off of the ground. Better put jet fuel into it.
I think that you can get chelation therapy many places. I would look into that. I heard of one man on here getting them for 85.00 I had 16 treatments of that.
It gets all of the toxins out of your body. And it is approved across the world for this. I also liked the Ozone therapy. Who all does this I don't know. But it cleanses your blood and then it is put back into work on its own.
Most people think that popping a pill for ever is going to get the the job done. But that is a joke. The lyme bacteria was made by man to be used in war and it is antibiotic resistant. Everyone knows this, yet everyone keeps thinking taking them...year after year.
Abx does kills bacteria. Every good bacteria in your body too. That is why people will stay in the herxing mode. The body keeps trying to get its good bacteria back and the abx kill it over and over again.
Abx abuse has been linked to cancer more that anything.
I have become a big fan of the vitamins and the cleansing the body. Since I can't get my 5 year old treated at Envita. I got her on vitamins and supplements. And replaced the good bacteria in her body. She was very ill on the LLMD's heavy abx routine. She looked horrible and the whole herxing thing is a total bunch of BS. She could not eat, did not want to go to school, threw up everyday, was running a fever...had a bad cough. She had black circles under her eyes...it hurt to walk. She was seeing things...
Her knee and neck hurt...I mean..common..she is 5, so I took her off of the abx bs..and started her slowly on vit.s and She is great now.
She has not missed school in over a month. And she is great.
I would get a nutritionist and look at the long list of vit. that I posted back in dec and again last week.
You need to feed your body. Stop drugging it. I am not a fan of all of this LLMD stuff. Those so called DR.s almost killed me.
Because you can get lyme everyday by a mosquito, does it not make more sense to build up your immune system?
So that your body can deal with the daily bacteria that it gets?
We do not live in bubbles and one cannot live on ABX. That is not the answer to a healhy life.

little star..
I was never asked if I had fillings before my 6 hour chelation treatments. And Dr. Korn was a dentist.
So that cannot be true. But hey, we all know by now that if you ask 30 Dr.s one question you wil get...30 diff. answers...
LOL
Studsky had over 60 treatmenst of chelation. He did it ages ago. Ask him about it. He knows much more about it than I do. I had never even heard of it before.
I would also look into ozone therapy.
Honeslty I felt better just after it alone.
I am packing for a 3 week vacation for me and my 5 year old..
Normally I would have already passed out..had a EKG or two..and throwing up..and fever..and a mirgrain..and all of that just packing.
But it is taking me so much space to pack all of my supplements...But hey.I am not leaving with out them.
If this is the ferizer that got me well...I am going to take them for the rest of my life...yes..all 60 of them daily...lol
I am now in treatment in Scottsdale Arizona at Envita.

hello I also agree with marthervinyard with the whole abx thing that its not healthy to be on them for so long. I have been on them for only 6 monts and they make me very tired and sick to my stomach. I noticed that i started getting yeast so i went on acidophilus which helped huge....i also decided to go off both my abx with out telling my dr and i feel much better. I take a vitamine b12 complex  and msm, i also am ging to start a multi vitamine for women for energy. I have been eating better. I cant explain how i am feeling beter but i feel that my body needed the break from the abx. they were simply making me sick...i know that my lyme has gotten better cause i am much better than i was through the holidays... i go to my dr in april so i am gong to stay off the abx till then and see how i feel.

what other vitamins does anymone recomend to buld the imune system...i read about the vitamin c. how much do you take?

Good for you. See you are listening to your body. I wrote out the huge list of stuff that they put me on. Something about building your immune system up.
You are on the right tract. You will be shocked at how much stuff they put me on . And honeslty I thought it was all bs. I just had a bad wrong impression about vitamins. And I was wrong.
It is wild. I am growing tomatoes. Yes back in the garden...lol. And the ones that I put in a really great soil are going nuts...so much so that they passed the others up and the others were huge.
The miracle grow stuff has something in it that they love. So I am thinking of my kids that way now. I had already tried the abx with my baby. And the only time that it was good was right at the time of the bite. 1,200 for 40 days.
And talk about herxing. She got so ill at about day 30 or so...then she was all better. And when I got talked into the whole abx thing again..well. I was afraid that it was going to kill her.
So I stopped all the madness.
For her she is running a record of not being sick. For her, Lilly was sick every 2-3 weeks with 106 fever and a flu/pnuemonia ordeal.
But now she is on tons of C and other stuff that enivta put her on to help her immune system.
And she is doing very well.
I was told to go on abx when I left envita. But I felt fine since I left. And I am not in the habbit of taking drugs when I feel fine. So I just said no. And I feel fine. I also do not believe it and am very grateful. But I happier to learn that I do not have to live my life in fear of lyme and that I can protect myself from all of my future bites. Hey I have three dogs and live in the great outdoors..and I am going to arm my body...immune system the best that I can. It all sounds very old fashioned. But I can hear my grandmother telling me to eat all of my veggies and to not smoke or drink when I got older...lol...and she always took a ton of vit. C.
