I was just curious. How many Lymies have had root canal before they got Lyme symptoms? How many have had jaw pain from the Lyme and is it in the area of the root canal? How long after the root canals did they get it? Anyone?

I read somewhere that lyme can cause the root of a tooth to retract, making the need for a root canal in the first place.

I have had three root canals done since feeling ill. I also have a positive band on 41. Strange, you are saying that the band 41 COULD be from the dental problems? This is all so confusing to me, we were thinking I was LYme positive mainly due to 41 being positive. HOw in the world, do you figure it all out??? Franco, who would do that test on the mouth spirochete, a dentist or LLMD? Never heard of that before now.  Thanks   D

Dowa,

I also had positive 41 band, but had root canal 18 months before I had any symptoms of Lyme. I don't have any problems with my teeth now, that I am aware of. However, I have been researching root canals and there is some evidence that they may weaken the immune system so one could develop chronic Lyme among other illnesses. I am looking into it. Any info is appreciated.

Frango,

Thanks for the info about 41 band. Very helpful.

When I was having alot of problems with my teeth I went to a specialist in Boston that did only root canals for his opinion. He told me that the absesses were caused by lack of blood supply to the teeth. The Lyme came up later, but when I found out that Lyme Disease can cause a thickening of the blood (hypercoagulation) that made perfect sense about the lack of blood flow. And yes, I have TMJ and the pain is on the same side. Makes me crazy, all this informtion really as  I was blaming the Lyme on the teeth pain, not the other way again. Its like, what came first the chicken or the egg..? I didnt have enough postives on the WB for my doc here to say it was lyme (or actually first said it was, and changed his mind). So now that Franco said that about the 41 and peridontal disease, it confuses me even more. This week I am acutally having nerve pain in a tooth that already had a root canal done, that makes no sense at all as the tooth is supposed to be dead after a root canal, is it not??D

Dowa,

What Lyme symptoms do you have and do you know which teeth (numbered) had root canal? Mine were 19, 4, and 3. My worst symptoms had been arm, shoulder pain and night sweats and chills. Most of these are gone now but I am wondering about the root canal connection. Yes, good question, what came first, chicken or the egg?

RV: Your pain subsided after the root canal surgery or are you on being treated for the Lyme?  I have basically all the symptoms on the Lyme list and they change from one day to the next. I have the CNS problems with balance, vision (optic neutritis), weakness, confusion, stabbing pains, yes, shoulder pain, trouble reading and writing etc. and then I alternate between fever and abnormally low body temp. I get skin rashes and chronic staph infections. My immune system is compromised as I have low IGg all around and high T-cell count. I was mold injured and  the doc here is blaming it all on that because he did not consider my test  postiive. I dont know what number teeth (do you have a chart?) but they are back teeth, both on the left upper quadrant. First and third after the eye tooth, if that helps. Are you saying that all of your symptoms of should pain, etc.  vanished after the root canal surgery?

Dowa,

No, I had the root canal 18 months before I had Lyme symptoms. But my symptoms became abruptly pronounced when I was exposed to some mold like toxin that emitted from an old coal shoot on my property. I tested positive for Lyme shortly afterward. i was just wondering if the root canal can weaken the immune to make a person more prone to getting Lyme.

Ah!!! The mold...bingo! Mold toxins produce the same toxins as  Lyme. Are you familiar with Dr. S research?? ALL of my symptoms (teeth and Lyme) came out with a vengeance after my mold exposure.  VERY interesting...what you just said.Root canals can weaken the immune system but so can mold. D

Dowa,

Yes, I am thinking that I may wait and not run to have my root canal teeth pulled out yet. The mold exposure had such a profoundly negative result by itself.

My doc tells me that dental spirochete could give a positive test for lyme. Kind of makes sense

I know many very bad lyme patients see Dr. Rau at Paracelsus in Switzerland and he makes all of them se the dentist first and remove root canals and dental issues-metal and infection.

I read a book-Rescued by my Dentist" in it there is a small study about peoples immune system after all dental issues are removed-on average the immune system doubled.-that could be helpful
