I am starting my treatment for lyme.  Started last wednesday on doxy 200 mg(yes i know its a little low of a dosage).  Starting that night, i went into a crazy brain fog and the next day i had much worse joint pain, fatigue, foot pain, neck pain, tingling lips etc.  I haven't really recovered since then.

How long can herxing last(assuming thats what I'm having?)?  I thought it was nasty before, but this is pretty rough stuff.   I also guess i dont know if its a herx..or just the lyme getting worse but i guess thats indeterminate pending time.

When I first started treatment I was very sick for about two weeks and then slowly improved. I have never had such a strong herx since then. I usually just have problems once a month. I changed abx last month and this month is worse but not debilitating. I think the duration of your herx depends on how sick you are and how effective the abx is. If it is any comfort, when you feel this bad after starting an abx it means it is working and you are killing off a lot of bacteria. I was told to drink a lot of water with lemon and to soak in a hot tub with epsom salts. I also liked being under an electric blanket. I hope you can take it easy until you feel better.

For me, 2  days of acute symptoms (feeling like death), preceeded and followed by 2 nights of little/no sleep.  So in and out in less than a week.  Repeat every 20-23 days or so.  Gradually they're getting less severe.

Goodluck.

darnit. today has been my worst day in a while. and now my left shoulder is hurting more in the joint and im getting this really strange ringing in my ears. it sounds like a high frequency...and then it gets so loud i have to like cover my ear and it rings through my head..and then goes away in about 5 seconds. bizarre!!

Tomorrow will be my one week anniversary of treatment! so far no improvements... worse than when i started. :(. but will keep trucking through it as its been months now. starting to get into the
"suffer everyday" groove! at least i can still keep working and keep money rolling in. :)

It is amazing that you are able to work through this. You are doing very well. It may continue to be bad for several weeks as though you have the worst flu ever. I had body pain, dizziness, extreme fatigue, headache and pins and needles stabbing sensations, muscle spasms and twitches and strange chills isolated to one part of my body. My ears were ringing with occasional stabs in the inner ear. It could become very loud at times, then quickly go away, just like yours. My eyes hurt all the time and I could not tolerate light. My brain was the worst part as it was like cotton, could not remember anything, forgot words and even slurred words together, could not type or write. . . . . Within two months I was doing very well but quickly relapsed when I quit abx, went on a stronger drug for two months, felt great, quit again and relapsed. The key is to go at least two months symptom free. I am on my 8th month of abx. It is a marathon, not a sprint, even when you consider yourself to be strong and healthy. I hope you feel better soon.

Wow that is EXACTLY how i felt and have been feeling! The strange chills/hot flashes, pins and needles, spasms, ringing ears, the light! and yes my head was like i was under water!

today i actually was a bit better. less joint pain, no ringing, and some energy although i did crash a bit by 4 pm. i felt almost like me for a change, refreshing! unfortunately i have to cut prednisone to 2.5mg tomororw which should send my body right through torture again...but just a necessary evil to get off the stuff by the end of next week hopefully.

I will definatly keep it in mind that once I start to feel better, go at least 2 more months to get any remaining lyme reproduction cycles exposed to abx.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my posts, you have been very helpful!
