My LLMD told me there is nothing that works for bart. He thinks artemsian works well for Babesia and several things work for lyme including Samento Cumanda, andrographis and teasel root but nothing for bart. In schaller's book he said high doses of Zhang's HH capsules work. He also says very high doses of Cumanda help, and high doses of Clove bud oil which he suggests getting from North American Herb and Spice company. Schaller said none of the drugs work on bart, rife machine is useless and so is oxygen chamber.
What have your tried for bartonella that helped you and how did you know that you were getting better? I can't tolerate the drugs any more and need to get started on something else. Do you know of anyone that has cured bart with any kind of herbal treatment? Has anyone tried really high doses of Cumanda or HH? Zhang recommends 3 HH capsules a day so very high would seem like 9 capsules a day - expensive too. Has anyone tried all of these herbs at once?
Thanks

Stephen Harod Buhner's book, "Healing Lyme," gives some herbs for Bartonella:
Polygonum cuspidatum (Resveratrol), Boneset, and sometimes also Red root; Stephania is also sometimes recommended.

I loaned buhner's book to someone and never got it back so I guess I will just have to buy another copy. It was my first lyme book and I immediately bought all of his herbs so I have Resveratrol and Japanese knotweed and Andrographis. I think I even wrote on the bottles how much to take. I will start the Resveratrol. I remember him saying in the book that he thought ordinary devil's claw to be just as effective as TOA free Samento but there is controversy about
that. I know when I first took Samento I felt it soon afterward but not so with devils claw.
rk8950, I am emailing you.

BTW, it's Cat's Claw, not devil's claw...devil's claw is a different herb.
Japanese Knotweed is the source of the Resveratrol that Buhner uses in his book...
Just clarifying, for those who haven't read the book...
Take care,

Yeah, your right, thank you for the correction. It is my lyme brain again confusing words. Devil's claw is for pain.

Trying one more time to post. I just don't think this forum likes me.
The big question is do you actually have bartonella or do you have the mystery bug which is most likely a protozoa?
If you are relying on a Fry slide to disgnose bartonella then you probably have the protozoa instead -- visually these pathogens look alike on a bloodslide. If you have an antibody test which is positive then you probably do have bartonella.
The treatment would be very different depending on the pathogen. The protozoa responds to some antimalaria drugs and herbs or toxoplasmosis meds supposedly.

My kids are both on Zhang's HH capsules. My DS is 12 and must have had a tough case of Bart- he was doing better just on Rifampin, but then had a horrible relapse in Dec. We slowly upped his Rifampin again and added in HH capsules, per his drs Rx.
Right now he is up to 1 1/2 capsules/day.
We had to go very slowly with him b/c the CNS/moods swings/irritability got very bad as he adjusted to each higher dose.
We were supposed to increase his dose by a half capsule each week, but b/c of the reaction, we took two weeks to increase the dose. Each time at the end of the second week he was feeling better and better.
He is starting his 6th week and we see his dr on Tues, so we'll see.....

I hope your son continues to improve. I don't know how you parents cope with your children being so sick especially when you have it yourselves. I bought houttuynia online, not zhang's, and I haven't gotten it yet. I have heard it is very helpful.
I did not have a positive test to diagnose bartonella. There are 30 strains and the labs only test for 2-3. I have symptoms including skin changes so I am positive I have it. Who knows I might have protozoa as well.
