My recent blood work showed high levels of ALT and AST. Could this be from the prolonged treatment with Doxycycline (400mg/day). I've been on Doxy and Biaxin (1g/day) for 7 months. Last summer (before I was diagnosed with LD) my ALT and AST levels were a bit high but then normalized. Now they are high again. Anyone else experience this?

Hi needshelp.  Some people who have Lyme have elevated liver enzymes from time to time.  I am just speculating, but I think it is more from the disease than the meds.  My enzymes have been elevated before.  What is your doctor planning to do?

If your liver is healthy, taking the supplement Milk Thistle daily can help keep the enzymes normal.  I suggest asking your doctor if it is okay for you to take this.

Hi, I had elevated AST and ALT liver enzymes prior to testing LD positive. I had done some research to see why that might be and came across an intersting article that stated 20 % of people w/ LD have elevated liver enzymes. Since receiving 2 months IV therapy and taking milk thistle, they are back to normal.
Wish you the best on your journey to wellness yeah
