Someone on here offers names of Drs for certain areas. (was it you, Razzle?)

I've been back and forth w/ our BCBS rep and she gave me 3 names of Drs she states treat Lyme.  I am not at work, so I can't look in our provider directory, and she gave me no contact info (thanks a lot)  I am already on one's waiting list.  The other 2 are not noted anywhere on our local Lyme board.  So I'd like to find out if the someone here has  either of these Drs on their list, please.

any info would help. Thanks!

Personally, I would not trust the recommendation of a BCBS rep. The insurance companies do not like to approve expenses unless they are forced to so I believe they would not recommend a doctor who treats Lyme Disease appropriately and aggressively because it would cost them too much. Unfortunately, this is why most, if not all, llmd's do not accept insurance. I also have BCBS and they have been very good about paying out-of-network expenses so far and I usually receive reimbursement in less than two weeks. If your plan has an out-of-network option, you might want to consider it. I could be wrong but I would make sure that the doctor comes recommended by the lyme literate community and not the health insurance company. If you do not get a response on here you can try www.turnthecorner.org for a reference. Good luck!

Thanks, scorpio! Actually, at least one that she recommended is a very reputable LLMD around here, (KC metro area) but as I said, I'm on a long waiting list for him. As for out of network, that's what I've been battling with w/ BCBS. They will not approve an out of network doc, (or labs) if there is one in network that I can see. My plan is HMO.

I am also concerned about all I've heard about ins companies and LLMDs. So this is essentially a planned route I'm taking. I am not well, but am not as ill as many on here. So I want to start w/ BCBS recommendations and proceed w/ protocol, so that if I do not receive proper care, I will have a case.  Financially, I have no choice at this time.

I am also concerned because of the publishing of info on Dr R here, who has supposedly overdiagnosed people and put them on exhorbitant treatment plans that ins won't cover.

I believe we have to tread very carefully here and I'm doing all the research I can, so I will be somewhat informed w/ whatever Dr I see. Already, my PCP was not able to answer my questions on Quest's WB, because he knew nothing of the band and I knew what it meant.

I do want to make sure that BCBS is not purposely sending me down a dead end, that's why I'd like to know about the 2 Drs left on the list. I'll look at turnthe corner and appreciate this advice! Thanks!

email stephanie@turnthecorner.org give the area you need you get an email back of docs
The line is faded not showing where Lyme came in. I became a new Mommy n my Lyme decided to show itself. Swollen elephant like knee and finger and limiting back pain. Bell's palsey, weight loss as if I had no muscle on my bones anymore. And much more text book lyme symptoms. To a Lyme doc, after alot of there is nothing wrong with you and a recommend to counceling,he said V this is Lyme. What kept me pressing on I had Lyme while I was pregnant. I know I was not infected while pregnant. I am watching her with an eagle eye. God Bless everyone. Love Veronica. Were the ones who know about Lyme not the doctors. Isnt that just mad? Backwards. Alice in wonderland.

Lymeunknown, It's great that one of the llmd's in your area accepts your coverage. Now you just need to get that appointment moved up. When I made my first appointment, I was told I had to wait months. I went ahead and made the appointment and then called every few days to see if there were any cancellations. I lucked out and only had to wait two weeks. Just a thought and might be worth a try.

I realize you have the HMO so your plan's policies are much different form the PPO but BCBS told me they definitely would not cover labs from Igenex and then they ended up covering most of the cost when I submitted the claim form. I was also told by my doctor, nurse and BCBS rep that BCBS would only cover one month of Rocephin and then they ended up extending the coverage to three months.

It's so frustrating and unfair what we have to go through just to get the treatment we need but hang in there.

What state is the "Dr. R" in you are referring to? I'm wondering if it's my doctor? lol

Anyway, good luck and let us know how things go.

Thank you, bablymers!

Scorpio, Dr R is in KCMO. There's a whole thread on her here, as I recall, pretty far back. She is being sued for diagnosing a whole long list of illnesses that the person(s) did not have, and over diagnosing Lyme. EVentually, we must find out how they KNOW she overdiagnosed lyme, cause they'd have to prove the people did not have it. Well....... we are told there is NO way to do that, right?

How many of us here would LOVE for it to be PROVEN that we do NOT have Lyme????

Oh, and Scorpio, that's a good idea to keep calling the Dr.  They specifically would NOT make an appt for me when I requested this.  9 month 'waiting list' does NOT mean I have an appt in 9 months.  It means there MIGHT be an opening in 9 months.  So they told me that calling for cancellations would not get me in there.  Dr is overbooked and can't take on any new patients. So I'm assuming the 'waiting list' is dependent on people being discharged or leaving his care.
