I'm finally starting treatment today and I'm terrified!! If I hadn't had that bad herx from amoxicillian, I wouldn't be so scared. Please, someone, tell me something to make me feel better. I'm freaking out!

my LLMD. said to me 'just because you had bad experience with 'Doxy' - does no-way mean the same will happen with different abx.

No-one knows what reaction a certain drug will have - so my advice would be - take as prescribed with timings of supplements etc; correct - I know it is scarey - all you can do is TRY to think positive - keep saying to yourself 'this is going to make me better' - it may sound feeble - but the power of the mind is a 'real' weapon.

as bad as a 'herx' is - it is also a sign of the body getting rid of the nasty stuff - if you start to feel too bad you can always stop or reduce the drugs.

O.K. - go for it - you can do this xx

CajunGrl, take a deep breath and know that you are on your way to getting better.  Remember you are not alone.  You are stronger than you know, and you will get through this.

Good luck with your new protocol.  Keep us posted on how you are doing, okay?

CajunGrl, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with amoxicillian. More than likely it will not be as bad you antcipate it will be with the new protocol. Hang in there and let the healing begin. Good luck.

Everyone,

Thank you so much. I'm just gonna write a short line because I'm not feeling too good but thanks for the positive notes. My mind was racing last night and fear took over. So far, so good. I'm just feeling bad. I don't think I'm herxing yet. Just having a bad day.

Thanks again everyone! You are all so very supportive. We all need that in our lives.

Thanks everyone! You all make alot of sense. I let the fear take over and you know how that goes. I'm hurting today and just feeling worn down. I did notice a little brain fog today and I cried for something stupid but I've been doing that for a few days now, LOL. I think the brain fog is the only new symptom I've noticed. Gonna up my DMG and see if it makes a difference.

Are you back on the same med. or trying a different one?

The first time I took the Doxyclycline, I had to take Benadryl to tolerate it, because I broke out in itchy hives. The Benadryl helped with that, but did not add anything to my already nonexixtent energy level. I think the pain pills and muscle relaxers that I had been on prior to beginning the abx, were still in my system which may have contributed to the reaction.

This time when I was put on the Doxy. that didn't happen, but it wasn't getting rid of the symptoms, they just kept moving and changing. The IV ceftriaxone has helped and I feel better overall. I am hoping it was enough, but plan to go on herbal treatment to be sure.

It is ironic that you are starting treatment at the same time that mine is ending! Oh, and by the way, the PICC line comes out without even feeling anything at all! I thought they were just saying that, but it's true!

Turquiose,

Yay!! I am so happy for you. You are one step closer to getting better. I'm so glad you don't feel anything when it comes out. I was telling my husband how freaked I was about the picc line if I ever had to have that put in and he laughed. He knows how ridiculous I can get sometimes, LOL. He didn't laugh in a mean way. He just knows how I get. He knows me well after 15 years!

How are you feeling? Is any of your symptoms getting better?

Edited to add: Im starting fresh. This is my first time on a protocol. The reason I was on amoxicillian as stated above in my first post, was for a really bad bladder infection. I herxed really bad and that's basically how I knew I had Lyme Disease.

Ohhh, I guess I missed that detail. I hope it goes well for you!

I did find out the meaning of herx. The first several days of the IV I felt weaker and achier and worse all over. It's a good thing I knew what it was or I would have panicked! Then slowly I began to feel less and less aches in all the muscles and joints. The other symptom that had just started before I started the IV was that the new varicose vein in the side of my calf was throbbing and the whole back of my calf in that leg ached. All of that subsided gradually little by little. The only thing left is a little stiffness around my knees, and my back keeps bothering me, but I'm hoping that is from when I fell down the steps in March, when I was still having vertigo. The other symptom I had in March was the pain in all my nerve endings that felt sorta like bruises, but sometimes in my feet, sometimes feet and hands, and sometimes head to toe. The symptoms that I had in March subsided, but were replaced with the muscle and joint pain.

The symptoms kept changing, and the whole time I had the back ache, so I can't tell if that was the Lyme, or the fall, or my response to all of it, or all of the above. I go back to the chiropractor tomorrow. I wasn't up to going there in the past two months. Oh, and my lymph nodes seem to be going down too. That was the other part that worried me. Now I just hope the critters are dead and not just back in dormancy.

I want to start on the herbal stuff, but do you think I should wait or do it right away? I have to find the info paper on it.

Turquoise,

I would start right away with the herbs just so it can keep your body balanced and working properly. I'm taking supplements with my antibiotics. It helps me feel better.

My herx was terrible. I continued herxing even after I stopped the antibiotics for a whole month. I had old symptoms come back, new symptoms surface and worsening of the ones I already had. I had very bad muscle and joint pain, floaters, anxiety, panic, hallucinations, brain fog, forgetting names, waking up not knowing where I was, stiffness all over, I couldn't bend my fingers, ears ringing, sound sensitivity really bad, light sensitivity and I felt like I couldn't be touched at times. It was total he'll! I'm sure there is more that I am forgetting. That's why I'm so scared.

That is understandable.

I am definitely going back on all of the supplements to boost my immune system, but not sure if I should wait to do the blend of herbs that is supposed to help fight the spirochetes. I remember there is teasel root in it and some other herbs. My reason for waiting would be to see if they are just dormant and give them time to come back out, or does that make sense? Should I post this as a new question?

It makes alot of sense. I definitely understand and I forgot that herbs were a little different than supplements. Why don't you post a new thread to see what everyone thinks. Razzle is very knowlegeable in that area.

To everyone:

I decided to stop my treatment until Friday. I am home alone all day until Friday because my husband works and my youngest daughter is babysitting all week. My oldest daughter doesn't live here anymore so I have no one to stay with me until Friday. I'm just very scared of the side affects and I want someone here in case anything happens. I kinda feel like I let myself down in a way. But, this is just what I have to do for now that makes me feel better.

I will let everyone know how it goes on Friday. Thanks for listening.

Please don't beat yourself up over it. You didn't let yourself down. You're doing what you need to in order to calm your fears and keep the anxiety at bay. It's only a few days and you'll be back on track soon enough.

Sometimes the unknown is the absolute worst, especially after what happened to you with the Amoxicillin. When I first started treatment and was told I needed a picc line I experienced anxiety for the first time in my life. Looking back I can laugh at how irrational I was at times. I'm certainly not thrilled with having it in my arm but am now okay with it.

I'm hoping that once you start your meds again on Friday, you'll realize that it's not going to be so bad or at the very least it will be manageable.

Scorpio: Thanks so much. I hate that my anxiety gets the best of me sometimes. I never used to be this way. I'm like this now with every new medicine I start, especially if the medicine makes you herx and feel weird.

RD: Thanks alot Hun. I'd love to help you out and vise versa. I'm starting to realize that helping others sort of gets my mind off of this disease. For a few minutes, I feel whole again. It makes me feel good inside.

There is a difference between being cautious and safe and unreasonable fear. You have to do what is right for you, and you have valid reason for your anxiety about the meds!

We are all here with you!
