Has anyone had problems with swallowing.   My throat on the right side felt paralyzed - it felt like it from my nostril down to my throat.  It makes me feel short of breath.  I hate the feeling.

I never had this until recently. I heard of having your esophegus stretched helps. Have you ever heard of this?
The line is faded not showing where Lyme came in. I became a new Mommy n my Lyme decided to show itself. Swollen elephant like knee and finger and limiting back pain. Bell's palsey, weight loss as if I had no muscle on my bones anymore. And much more text book lyme symptoms. To a Lyme doc, after alot of there is nothing wrong with you and a recommend to counceling,he said V this is Lyme. What kept me pressing on I had Lyme while I was pregnant. I know I was not infected while pregnant. I am watching her with an eagle eye. God Bless everyone. Love Veronica. Were the ones who know about Lyme not the doctors. Isnt that just mad? Backwards. Alice in wonderland.

Yes, I've had a difficult time swallowing for the past year. Lyme can attack the vegas nerve, which is responsible for swallowing among other things.

What about Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? I deal with this, which can make taking pills a challenge & even make me feel like I can't catch my breath as well.

The swallowing thing happened to me for a few years before I got treatment. It was even hard to swallow my saliva, I would have to try several times before it would go down. I got treated for 3 things at the same time 2 1/2 years ago-Lyme, Babesia and Hashimotos so it hard to tell what it was from-but I would bet it was Lyme because I have heard many complain of that.. Now it hardly happens. Blessings
Diagnosed 2003 Lyme, Babesia, Bartonella, Micoplasma,Hashimotos Thyroiditis. Have had since early nineties. [/color]

By the way....I too have Hashimotos. If your thyroid swells, it will make it feel like it's hard to swallow.

Well, I used to be able to swallow a handful of my vitamins all at once. Now, I'm gagging on my C vite pill -- it keeps getting stuck. I've noticed that this seems to come and go. I also have low tyroid (not Hashi) and it's slightly enlarged.

Have recently (past 6 mo) occasionally had pretty severe pain at the bottom of my throat, down to my chest, just from swallowing bites of my meal. Like it's stuck somewhere in my chest. Comes and goes, tho.

Lyme,

If your Thyroid is swollen, you need to have that checked. It may be Hashimotos. I started off with low thyroid(hypo), then my thyroid got swollen and I was diagnosed with Hashimotos.

Ticker is good with knowing which thyroid tests to take for this. I know it's an antibody test but I don't know which one. I'm hoping she sees this post.

See http://thyroid.about.com/cs/hypothyroidism/a/hashivshypo.htm ~ it tells what tests are needed for diagnosis of Hashi's.

Take care,

I also have a hard time swallowing pills, this is something new.  I was having pressure on the right side of my neck, I don't think anyone had any ideas about that though.

Hey CG and all -- well an endocrinologist said I did not show the antibodies that would indicate Hashi's. Course, she also said it wasn't low enough to treat, and when I showed PCP that test he was surprised that she hadn't. He said I would feel much better on meds and ran more tests. Altho he did diagnose hypothyroidism, he was not thorough in going over these tests, so I'd be interested in knowing what to look for in my labs to see if he tested for antibodies? Very strange, I was at the weight (and size) I liked, and ever since that tick bite, have put on weight that I can't take off. Strange that I never had hypothryroidism until after that bite..... (being sarcastic here....) I will bring this up w/ LLMD on the 30th.

I like to use the Mayo Clinics' site for understanding tests, results & conditions.

Although I frequently many other sites like that as well.

It seems like so many people have thyroid problems with this disease. I guess it makes our bodies attack our thyroid somehow. Maybe it hides in there too. Yuck!

Lyme: I hope everything gets squared away for you soon. I hate when I feel that swollen feeling in my throat. I feel like I can't ever put my neck in the right position.

3WhiteRoses: I hope things work out for you as well. It's agravating when you feel like you can't swallow right.
