You have helped me so much. I wanted you to know how much I appreciate your posts.

There are many that I copy and paste to an ongoing email to myself of all your advice I want to remember.

It is a great email packed full of great advice, Thank you.

Any advice for what someone should take for a new bite. My Mother just got a bulls eye rash in Minnesota. They gave her 21 days of Amoxy 2000mg I think. I trust your opinion more than theirs.

Hi Beth.  Hope I am not butting in.   If your mom has not done so, tell her to get photos of her rash.  It is important documentation.  Have her place something near it, like a coin or ruler, before photographing to give it size definition.

From what I understand, six weeks of the proper dose antibiotic is the minimum treatment for an infection caught within two weeks of the bite.  If the infection is longer, longer treatment is needed.  If symptoms are still present, further treatment is needed.  Doxy is often prescribed first because it can be effective for Lyme and it treats Ehrlichiosis.

I believe the recommended dose of Doxy for Lyme is 300-600 mg daily with 400 mg daily often prescribed.  I believe the recommended  minimum dose of Amoxicillin for Lyme is 3000 mg daily.  Dr. Burrascano lists the recommended doses starting on page 18 in his treatment guidelines at http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf

Ha ha ha!!  Really Lyme, you are funny--your nickname was Butt and your daughter is Sugar Butt!!!

I hope your mom will listen and that she gets the proper treatment now.

I am sorry I missed your other post, I am a bit "behind" (not in the butt sense!!!!!).

I agree with Ticker I would treat with doxycycline at a good dose, 200 mg twice daily and I also have people take Artemesinin 200 mg 3X/day with Colloidal Siver (Argentyn) 2 tsp twice daily. I generally treat for 6-8 weeks to be safe and to prevent coinfections-- I live in the east coast and presently there is more Bartonella in the ticks than Bb Lyme-- and Bart is so sneaky you would never know you had it you would just think you were a pissed off person having a terrible month that would slowly last into a year and probably some doc would put you on anti-anxiety medication and treat you for plantar fasciitis..... you know where I am going here.......

RD, wish I knew I can't for the life of me understand why docs aren't interested in why stuff happens and are happy just diagnosing people with what I call trash bag diagnoses like fibromyalgia, anxiety, and even MS and not fight hard to get to the bottom of the problem. I have been a doctor for over 25 years and traveled the world because I was so dissatisfied with how medicine is taught and practiced. Now I know I can't get political here but I sure would like to! Keep fighting and demanding and never give up, no matter what some ignorant health practitioner tells you.

pcpc would you be my doctor? pleaseeee...lol well i tried again today to get a nother doctor who understands lyme, the lady in charge of my health program said i had to stay with the flipping ID they sent me to. who by the way doesnt belive i have lyme, with a positive IgM test in his hand. this is the kind of fool i am dealing with.
he gave me a scrip for azithromycin 500mg to take 1 day as directed.i had to call the rx to ask what the directions were. they wasnt even sure, so told me to take 1 for 3 days then on the 10th day of the 1st oill to take again for 3 days.

i'm thinking this is very odd. and just his means to keep me at bay but not have to do anything either. almost like when you place a bandaid on a childs bobo to stop there crying. i do not need to codeld i need to be treated and by someone who actualy cares.
