I've been on Amoxicillian when I had a bladder infection and herxed pretty bad. I remember having no pain for about a week and a half. I'd like to try it again since I know what to expect from it. Plus, I think I have another bladder infection so I could kill two birds with one stone. I just need to know if it can be taken with Mepron? Does anyone know or take this combination?

Hi CajunGrl.  Are you also taking Biaxin, Zithromax, or Ketek?  From what I understand, Mepron needs to be taken with one of those to be effective for Babesiosis.

If you are taking one of those and want to add Amoxicillin, check with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure it does not reduce the effectiveness of your other meds.

Ticker,

I am on Biaxin but wanted to swap it out for Amoxicillian. What's the difference between the two? Why can't Amoxicillian be taken with Mepron?

Thanks!

CajunGrl ,from what I understand Mepron needs to be taken with one of those three antiibotics to effectively treat Babesiosis.   Dr. B. discusses this on page 24 of his guidelines at http://www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf

Ticker,

Thanks for responding. I did better on Amoxicillian and it was amazing how the pain had disappeared. It had to have done something good. I will as my doctor and see what he says. Maybe I can do this for a month then get back on Biaxin. I just don't think I'm strong enough for Biaxin right now. The pain is terrible too.

Hi CajunGrl.  Many doctors treat the co-infections first.  This may be why your doctor has you on Biaxin and Mepron.  It is good to know that Amoxicillin works well for you for when you treat Lyme.  I just would not take Mepron with it.

Ticker,

Thanks. I appreciate all of your input. I actually wait for you to answer some of my posts, hehe.

Anyway, he called in the Amoxicillian and I think I will take it for a while to build up my strength then start on the Biaxin and Mepron.

Hey CajunGrl, How have you been doing, other than the bladder infection?

Maybe you can ask your doctor about replacing the Biaxin with Zithromax and then take the Amoxicillin for the bladder infection.

about a month or so into treatment I also started to get a bladder infection and the doctor called in a different antibiotic to take along with all the others I was already taking for LD. A week after my last dose, it felt like it was coming back and he called in a different prescription that was stronger than the first. So far so good.

I don't remember the ones he called in for the bladder infection but if Amoxicillan works for you then you should stick with it.

I hope you feel better.

Hey Scorpio,

I've been feeling pretty bad lately. I don't think I'm strong enough for the Biaxin and Mepron combo right now. I have been feeling very bad ever since I took it so I though that maybe, since the amoxicillian did work, I could try and get a little better with that....then later on try the Biaxin and Mepron again.

I tried Zithromax before and I don't like the neurological symptoms it gives me. I'm so sensitive to medication.

How have you been?

I'm sorry you've been feeling so bad and apologize if I don't remember things you've probably told me before. I can't remember much these days. lol

Are you taking artesiminin?

You know what's best for your own body and are smart to listen to it.

I really haven't been feeling too great either. I'm on so many meds and lately feel as if my brain issues are actually getting worse instead of better. The doctor told me to go off the IV Rocephin for two weeks and come in to see him. I've been off for one week and am already starting to experience body pain again. Ugh!!! Going for a SPECT scan on Wednesday and am afraid that it will be even worse than the one done in 2005.

Hang in there and I hope you feel better.
