I just read that having adequete levels of Vitamin D helps with herxes. There was an experiment done with 1mg of minocycline and when Vitamin D was reduced, the herx was worse. It states that Vitamin D also helps the immune system. This is the first I here of this. I found this article while looking for low Vitamin D symptoms because my levels are low. What do you all think?

Here's the article. There's alot to read and it's complicated to understand some parts but if you scroll down a little, it states this in a box with red and black lettering.

Hey,

I've heard this in the past too. I didn't copy the link, but from what I know it's Vitamin D3 that is supposed to be the best.

I take this in liquid form along with Magnesium and Calcium.
Current treatment (began June 10th 2009):
Biaxin 1000mg/day, Pulsing Flagyl 500mg/day 1 Week Every Month

Hey Jen:)

That's the first time I hear this. I've just started taking Vitamin D, so we will see.

I will try and fix the link so everyone can click on it.

My Doctor just sent letter that my Vitamin D3 was way to low and to start supplementing right away. 4000 mg for a month then down to 2000mg.

I read the letter wrong ordered online 400mg 30 day supply that is not going to get me to far. What 10 pills a day, whats that 3 days worth. OOOOPPPPs.

A nurse that I work with was having a lot of joint pain and after a lot of testing found out that it was vitamin D deficiency. She is on supplements and has improved. She was told that this is becoming more common. Part of the reason is from sunscreen. It blocks the absorbtion of the vitamin D. It was suggested to go outside for about 15 minutes in the sun before putting on sunscreen.

Leaky Gut can also cause low Vitamin D levels too.

I started taking Vitamin D because I remember the doctor telling me that it could cause pain. I'm wondering if that's why I hurt so bad? I'm sure the pain is from the Lyme but I'm wondering if it's intensified from low Vitamin D? Hmmmmm

That is very interesting. Vit D is known to help fight cancer. I find I always feel a lot better in the summer physically as well as emotionally. I live way up north and winters are miserable - very short days that are overcast.

I started Vite D3, in add'n to what's in my daily vites, couple of weeks ago. I swear my neck is feeling better, unless it is the abx I've been on.
Lyme in NC in 1971? Suspect TBI: Fully engorged tick followed by high fever and tonsillitis. Follwed by , lumps on neck,  chronic tonsillits w/ constant low grade to recurring high (104) fevers, severe unexplained neck stiffness and acute neck pain.   Followed by tonsillectomy, urinary tract infections, miscarriage, appendicitis while pregant, chronic severe back pain. Followed by depression, mild anxiety, mitral valve prolapse, and hypglycemia.  Was this a TBI??

Bit again couple of times, lyme suspect bite Mother's Day 2007. Bite, symptoms, lyme specific antibodies on the most lyme specific band of all = 39 IgG.  Still awaiting appt w/ LLMD.

At one time, I had a prescription too and remember feeling better. Of course, I wasn't this bad off either.

Macrophages (immune system cells that "eat" bacteria) don't function well without adequate Vitamin D.
If the sun angle isn't high enough, Vitamin D won't be produced in the skin. Thus, those in higher northern latitudes should take a Vitamin D3 supplement from September through April (year-round if you live very far north).
