My regular doctor had me tested for Lyme ( my knee was swollen)  and it came positive, he is going to refere me to a infections specialist tomorrow, but after reading this forum I realize I need a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor.  I have probably have had this disease at least 2 years ( last time i was in any woods)

I will appreciate if you can tell me how i find one of these Doctors in the NYC area, i really dont want to end up with one that does not actively works with lymes.  I understand that a controversial topic and maybe names publically is not good, so if that is the case please email me .

thank you

I am a bit scare with this whole thing

Hi JohnLyme,

Welcome!  I know many people who have seen a Dr. R. who practices in Manhattan and he is supposed to be really excellent.

You can e-mail me for his name and number.

Hang in there,

Hi John, I am also being treated by Dr. R and am so glad I chose him as my llmd. I've read so many fantastic stories about him and feel like I'm in good hands. Good luck.

Dr. Z is also in NYC if you want to go the alternate route. He treats Lyme with Chinese herbs. Antibiotics took me only so far. The herbs are really helping the remaining symptoms.

Hi JohnLyme, welcome to the board!

I am sorry you have Lyme, but it is good you have been diagnosed so you can get treated. You are right that infectious disease doctors are not usually the best to see for Lyme unless they specialize in it.

Hi Ttriano!
Welcome to our forum!! I am so sorry that you have a need to be here, but I am sure glad you found us! smilewinkgrin

If you haven't already, it would be beneficial for you to start with reading through the thread at the top of the forum titled,"New to Lyme?...Start here!!", as it is packed full of relevant information, symptom lists and informative links that have been put together by our members here! Most of those who have read through it have said that it was very helpful!! We also have a pretty good search function on this forum to help you narrow down your search for information from past posts. We must be our own health advocates now and the best thing to arm yourself with is knowledge!

Unfortunately you have posted at the end of a very old thread, and those members are no longer active here. However I do have a couple of names of LLMD's that are located in/near the Manhattan area. If you would send me an email (please include your screen name and the area that you are wanting to find a LLMD in) I can share that info with you. All you need to do is to click the small envelope that appears under my screen name.

Another thing you can do is to ask our members directly by starting a new thread with the title being something like "Looking for a LLMD in the Manhattan, NY area" or where ever you are interested in finding a doc. We have an amazing group of people here that love to help when ever they can!!

I do hope that we can help you find the answers you need, find a doc that is able to give you the proper treatment and that we can get to know you better through your posts!

I break up my post because my eyes have been effected by TBI's as well, making long paragraphs very hard to read.

Hi Anthony,
We don't want everyone in the world to see your email address, which is what can happen by posting your email address in a post. I see that you have your email address enabled in your profile, so members will be able to see your email if they want to email you.

Thanks for understanding.

Hi All,
I am new to this and am writing as I have only one band present on my Lyme test: the IGM P23. Other than this my test is negative.
I have a history of EBV, and as of a week ago my ESR rate was 78, my lymph were at 0.4, and my B12 was 200, and I had 6 pea sized nodes swollen up and down the back size of my neck. CTSCAN showed nodules on my thyroid over a year ago, but the ultrasound could not pick anything up.

Furthermore I have been dealing with the following symptoms that have been coming and going for the past couple of years and I have marked the ones which are currently plaguing me:

Fatigue, tiredness, poor stamina - non stop for 2 1/2 weeks now
Unexplained hair loss
Swollen glands - in the past two weeks
Sore throat - past 3 days
Pelvic pain - comes and goes
Unexplained menstrual irregularity - yes but I also have an IUD
Upset stomach
Change in bowel function- over the past few weeks I have felt more constipation than I ever have in my life
Chest pain or rib soreness - this is something that occurred in the past few years and still occurs when it is cold
Heart palpitations, pulse skips- occurs randomly
history of valve prolapse - for 12 years that randomly disappeared last year
Joint pain or swelling - constant pain in hips & knees, occasionally elbows
Stiffness of the joints, neck, or back - nonstop for the past 2-3 weeks
Muscle pain or cramps - cramps in my pelvic area
Headache - mostly on one side and the back of my head & overwhelming feeling of pressure for the past 3 weeks
Neck creeks and cracks, neck stiffness, neck pain - more than usual in past 2-3 weeks
Tingling, numbness, burning or stabbing sensations, shooting pains - more than usual in past 2-3 weeks numbness and tingling in arms, feet, and hips
Eyes/Vision: blurry, increased floaters, light sensitivity, & constantly feeling that there is pressure behind my eye, or that there is something in the tear duct - constantly in past 2-3 weeks
Ears/Hearing: ringing, sound sensitivity (can't take loud noises these days at all), and constant feeling like my ear is clogged...
lncreased motion sickness, vertigo, poor balance - more than usual in past 2-3 weeks
Lightheadedness, wooziness - more than usual in past 2-3 weeks
Confusion, difficulty in thinking - more than usual in past 2-3 weeks
Difficulty with concentration, reading - more than usual in past 2-3 weeks
Forgetfulness, poor short term memory - more than usual in past 2-3 weeks - and I have a GOOD memory (too good for my own good at times)
Disturbed sleep-too much, too little, early awakening
Night sweats and chills, but no fever - constantly the past few weeks

Can someone let me know if this is really Lyme or if I am looking at this all wrong. If this is Lyme, can someone please help me with a LLMD in the NYC area?

Thanks in advance! blush

I am positive for the Lyme AB Screen IgM 144, but IgG is less than 80
So far, Western Blot came back negative. I'm getting rechecked in 10 days.
I just had a lumbar Puncture yesterday, waiting for the results.
On Doxy 100mg 2/day
No rash
ID Doctors has me Neg. for Lyme so far
Neurologist has me Neg. for Lyme so far
Live in the NY/NJ area, wondering if I should consult with an LLMD or other Lyme specialist MD, don't know any, can someone please provide feedback. All my Symptoms I feel are CNS related:

102 Fever lasted one day
Left me with ringing in ears (never had before)
Difficulty adjusting to light
mild headaches
pain around my nose

It's been 19 days.

Please help!

Hi S4Manny,

Lyme is best diagnosed clinically, by someone who is experienced with Lyme. I would encourage you to see a Lyme Literate Doctor.

I can give you the name of one if you enable the email option in your profile.

I too would be interested in receiving Dr. R’s name (and other LLMD’s) in NYC.  My son who is 5 years old was bite by a tick at the beginning of May and shows symptoms of Lyme and Bartonella.  I've been to many Drs here in NYC including an Infectious Disease Pediatrician who say my son is healthy - which he is NOT.  The incompetency of the physicians I have seen is unnerving and quite scary!   Any help would be greatly appreciated!
