ok so I dl and read :

ADVANCED TOPICS IN
LYME DISEASE
DIAGNOSTIC HINTS AND TREATMENT
GUIDELINES FOR LYME AND OTHER
TICK BORNE ILLNESSES
Sixteenth Edition
Copyright October, 2008
JOSEPH J. BURRASCANO JR., M.D.

and I found this line:

"Never give steroids or any other immunosuppressant to any patient who may even remotely be suffering from Lyme, or
serious, permanent damage may result, especially if given for anything greater than a short course."

I have lyme and I am on doxy, but I got bells palsey too and now I am on prednisone. Am I doing exactly what this article says not to do?

If anyone has had both lyme and palsey, I would love to know what else, vitimains, diet, exercise, anything else that I can do to help.

It seems that the most important thing about lyme is the immediate treatment when you discover that you have it.

thanks
really scared dood

Hi zizziz,

Yes, you should stop the steroids ASAP.  Bell's Palsy is extremely common with lyme disease and will go away with treatment.    I personally never had Bell's Palsy but know of many who have and it did go away.   I'm sure others will post who did have Bell's Palsy.

How long have you had lyme?   Were you tested for coinfections?

Anyway, I would start with detoxing (I always recommend that) because as the bacteria die off, they leave toxins in your body which need to come out.   When a person is sick their detoxing mechanisms are not working as good compared to a healthy body so one needs help getting rid of those poisons.

I started a thread about detoxing and I will bump it up for you.   Start slow and keep it simple to see how you tolerate a detox bath.

I hope that helps,
Denise

Zizziz,

Depending on how long you have been on prednisone, I think you may have to finish the pack if it's one of those packs that have higher and lower doses in it. Ask your LLMD what he thinks before stopping completely.
2003 symptoms started;panic attacks,anxiety,heightened senses.
2007 Diagnosed with Lyme. Didn't start treatment.
2008 symptoms came back with a vengence.
2009 Diagnosed with Lyme plus co-infections....Babesia and Bartonella.
Illnesses:-Chronic Lyme Disease,Hashimotos Thyroiditis, Ulcers, Hypoglycemia
Medications:-Biaxin 250mg to start,Mepron,Ultram,Thyro Complex 60mg,Probiotics and supplements

Vitamin B12 supplements have proven helpful for many cases of Bell's Palsy.

Hi zizziz.  How long are the steroids prescribed for?  They are not recommended for Lyme because they suppress the immune system which can make symptoms worse.   It is not safe to just stop them abruptly.   As stated, if it is a short course it should not be a problem.

What dose of Doxy are you taking?  There are some important tips to know about it.  Do not have any dairy, iron, or magnesium products within two hours of taking it, or it will not be absorbed properly.  If it makes you nauseous, eat something substantial before taking it.  What helped me most was to have a sandwich with some kind of protein (no dairy).  Avoid sun exposure.   Doxy can cause severe sun-sensitivity even when wearing sunscreen.  Do not lay down for at least an hour after taking it or you can ulcerate your esophagus.  This is very painful.  Drink a full glass of water when you take it for the same reason.

I will try to answer everyones questions:

How long have you had lyme?

I started getting high fever and fatigue on june 5th. Around june 16th-17th I noticed the EM rash (I didnt know at that time), on june 19th the DOC said I had lyme and I started the doxy the 19th. Over the weekend the 20th-21st I started to get the bells palsey and called the DOC on monday june 22nd and started Prednisone. I started taking a B COMPLEX vitimin after reading about it online. I got my bloodtest results yesterday. I have "accute" lyme with a western blot of 3.2 and a IGM of 6.2

Were you tested for coinfections?

no idea.

PREDNISONE are 10MG tablets 5 day 1, 5 day 2, 4 day 3, 4 day 4, 3 day 5, 3 day 6, 2 day 7, 2 day 8, 1 day 9, 1 day 10 friday will be day 5

DOXY is 100MG capsules, 2/day for 30 days

I read that this should be more, like up to 600mg day?

TICKER, I will go by those guidelines, thank you.

what is making me paranoid is that the one common thing I keep reading is that TIME is your enemy. I am spending all day reading and wondering if I can do anything more.

DETOX bath? I will go read about that, is anyone else in agreement with that? anyone do this as well?

I need to search out a LLMD, my guy isn't one. I am in North jersey if anyone knows of a good one close.

thanks all for your replies so quickly. I am glad that I have stumbled onto this board!
