Hoping, I have had chronic neck pain & stiffness most of my adult life, as well as most recently. The first acute episode I had to go to the ER, I could not stand the extreme pain. That time, they told me there was nothing wrong and sent me home w/ Valium, which of course helped it since it's a muscle relaxer and my acute pain was coming from muscle spasms, further pinching nerves. The only thing anybody ever found was an Xray that only showed arthritis. AT a time, when it became seriously acute, a good chiro took some good xrays and we saw crushed and/or crumbled disks. We/he had no idea what had caused this, he said some kind of past injury. Today, I'm thinking lyme related -- degeneration of the discs, with no idea what caused it.

I had control of the worst pains, sometimes by drinking too much alcohol to relax the muscles that were pinching the nerves. I've had a lot of relief in more recent history, however, after my 2007 tick bite it had become stiff and painful again.

At any rate, I am writing to you about this because almost kind of a sudden, I have experienced a very positive improvement the past 2 weeks.

I am wondering if the lyme has gone into hiding, or if the several weeks of abx, first for cellulitus, then another week for dental surgery had started working at the lyme. This relief may also be related to the addition of D3 to my supplements. So I'll certainly contribute to the recommendments of D to one's supplement.

Hopingtofindcure, I believe if it's caused by LD it will resolve with appropriate treatment. One of my first symptoms was neck stiffness and pain with cracking, along with flu-like symptoms and brain fog. It progressively became worse over the years but since starting treatment I've had a few days that I didn't have any neck pain at all. Most days I still have bad neck pain but the fact that for the first time in years I had a few pain-free days leaves me to believe the meds are doing something. I also experienced a few weeks when the pain was much worse and think that was probably due to herxing.

I'm being treating for lyme and coinfections and am on so many different meds I can't say which one is helping

+Lyme, I'm glad your neck pain is getting better. I'd bet it's due to the antibiotics.

When I first became sick and was still able to get out once in a while, I would go out for dinner and drinks every month or two. It always amazed me how much better I felt after a martini or two. LOL I swear it worked better than the pain meds but I always felt so much worse for days afterwards. Now I'm to the point where even the thought of an alcoholic drink turns my stomach but I do still do remember the good old days of Happy Hours. LOL

I also have bad neck pain and stiffness. I have it pretty much everyday. Years ago, I thought it was caused by my sinuses but it never got better. I also notice that it's been getting worse for me since I started treatment.

Thanks so much all who took the time.

Yeah, CajunGirl mine also got worse when I started treatment too. I don't know if antibiotics stirred up a hornets nest in Lyme's favorite hiding place or what.

Just hoping some day that it gets well. Trying to break from all meds. Feeling better in some ways, worse in others.

I've seen a chiro but without a diagnosis besides arthritis at this time, I can't have anyone manipulate my neck as their are teeny tiny bones in my neck that cannot be safely manipulated . . .

Scared if this is what 50 feels like.

Hoping,

I saw a chiroprator a year ago too. Actually, I worked for him and he would adjust me for free. My neck was never relieved either. My back felt great though, LOL.

Sorry, but probably some kind of degeneration of discs/vertebrae.

Although I cannot go into it now, please let me tell you all: Network Spinal Analysis. I do not receive this anymore and am in no way connected to the chiro who treated me. But I must tell you that is truly miraculous. I went to a chiro is esp kind and gentle. (used to play for the Royals!)

He broke his back and really did him in. He couldn't practice traditional chiropracty or particpate in the sports he enjoyed, and was in constant, acute pain. He tried acupunture, yoga, and the works. His only option was surgery, and you how chiros feel about surgery. Then he tried Network Spinal Analysis and says it gave back over 90% of his life.

Plus, he will never practice traditional chiropracty (sp?) again. This treatment is so very gentle. It is relaxing, yet invigorating.

The testimonials I have heard from his patients are remarkable: fibromyalgia pain: GONE, road rage, GONE; allergies: GONE, crippling back pain: GONE. It is a healing practice and I am here to tell you this is no fraud, far as I'm concerned. I was having near crippling back pain while waiting tables and then I took a job in one of his business investments, so he treated me FREE. He insisted.

He was very interested w/ my pronounced scoliosis. Told me he could not cure that, however he could help me be pain free. For the first few weeks I had no improvement, my pain actually got worse. He sated that was my body readjusting itself, and that was was a difficult, but short lived phase.

I am here to tell you that I had had sever back pain for years. After 3 weeks of this treatmtent, my pain miraculously and completely disappeared. That summer I worked for him, I scrubbed floors and walls for a min of 12 hrs per day, without an ounce of pain.

Generally, you sign up for a free demonstration, where you can see how it works. Unfortunately, I quit working for him, so there went my free, miraculous sessions. And I could not afford to pay for it anyway.

Evidently there are some ins that cover and LOT who do not.At any rate, I highly recommend this for those wrestling w/ worsening and who could afford it.

I wouldn't reccommend chiro. not the 'traditional' method any way.
I have had neck probs since tick-bite - my thoughts are that chiro. didn't help - esp. when I discovered that 'neck adjustments' can be dangerous.

I feel traditional chiro. is too harsh on the neck area.

muscle relaxants have helped on very bad days.

Hey, gorby -- Ya know, I never had neck problems either until my bite in 1972. No one ever found anything wrong til a chiro showed me xrays w/ crushed discs. I can't let anyone adjust or even massage my neck. the chiro treatments I'm recommending above is NOT traditional chiropracty (?). Any chiro who does Network Spinal Analysis no longer practices the traditional ways. It is totally non-invasive -- the touches are very firm, but gentle. There is no pain from the Dr's touch. My Dr. (Dr. Paul Schaal) found the spot to touch on my neck without me telling him.

I sure wish I could afford him again -- this practice helps the body/spine readjust itself in efforts to heal itself.

+Lyme - hi, I hadn't heard of 'NSA' - I used to get neck adjustments - I would hear my neck 'clunk' as chiro. twisted it !! YUK. - last occassion my neck gor sort of stuck and the 'adjustment' was taking too long - so I thought 'hey-enough'

Did/do you have a lot of tension/pain in your trapezium muscles?

I still can't really grasp how a tick can cause all this 'neck stuff' - wierd!!

Gorby -- look up NSA sometime. Like anything else, I'm sure you'd want to make sure you saw a good practitioner. I trusted in mine because it was NSA that helped him and turned him away from traditional methods. (just like our LLMDs!)

Yes, I have constant tension in the entire area of my neck. I have not had the acute pain in many years, thank God. the last time I had the acute episode a chiro I knew adjusted me several times. It was HORRIBLE. It made it worse and worse. But, he also was the only Dr who took a good xray of my neck. Crushed and crumbled discs w/ pinching vertebrae were what we saw. He could not tell what it was from. He said maybe an old injury.

I could not remember any old injury. The only thing I can remember was the first acute pain sometime after the tick bite and illness in 72. I had some horrendous episodes after that, but xrays showed nothing.

Seems I read that Lyme (possibly other TBIs) can cause degeneration of discs in the neck and back somehow. Now my neck is stiff and often hurts, tho it's manageable. I think D3 may have helped to.

The chiro that gave me NSA did it for my back. I've had chronic back pain my whole adult life, and I have it now. (scoliosis is worsening) During treatment w/ NSA my back pain was 100% relieved. My neck was not corrected, however, but it was better. With NSA, your body begins to adjust itself and I think that's why my neck did not fully resolve (+ the discs couldn't be repaired). I had never fully adjusted yet.

Every time I'd get in the car, I would have to readjust my mirrors, because my spine/neck was constantly shifting w/o me realizing. NSA is supposed to start 'peeling layers' off you, a little at a time, til it gets to the root.

I would very highly recommend this to anyone w/ illness and pain. But you'd need to read about it (just search network spinal analysis) to understand how it works.

Again, I am not in this treatment at this time and I am only promoting investigation of this method because of my own personal experience. It is not just another hokey treatment. I would have to say one would probably have to continue at least 6 weeks to determine if you are benefiting (and if the Dr is any good). If the Dr is as good as mine was, he should answer all your questions about what he can help -- and I am of the belief that it is possible it could cure lyme --- if one could go for treatments long enough to get down to that core and boost the immune systme high enough.
