Calf pain, calf cramps, and the resulting achilles tendonitis was pretty much my first symptom. And I've ruled out pretty much everything except Lyme, as I've spent two years stretching, and doing physio excersizes for my calves.
That being said- the stretching and exercizes probably were good things. I did a bunch of calf raises/lowers, halmstring stretches, and calf stretches (google calf stretches, and you'll get lots of helpful pictures).
It might not fix anything, but it can help keep it from getting worse.
