I was just wondering if feeling better after stopping a med is an indication that what you were suffering from was side effects or a herx?

I finished Flagyl yesterday, as I said in another post, and today I feel completely different. It's only been 24 hours or so but the difference is very visible. I am having a hard time figuring out what caused this change...was the flagyl stimulating my nervous system so much that I felt crappy? Or was it killing bugs?!

Do those of you who herx on pulsed abx notice that you feel better as soon as a day after stopping the med?

EDIT: I also wanted to mention that this is my second Flagyl pulse, and the last time I did this I did not feel nearly as bad on the drug and not nearly as good when I got off of it. ???!!!

Current treatment (began June 10th 2009):
Biaxin 1000mg/day, Pulsing Flagyl 500mg/day 1 Week Every Month

Jen ,

From what I recall Flagyl kills the cyst form of the bacteria and does make you feel quite nasty! I was on it for a week each month last year and had to stop taking it cause it was making me have panic attacks and I felt like I was freaking out all the time even when I wasnt taking it though it stays in your system for a while!! The reason you feel better when you dont take it is because the bacteria are being left alone and happy therefore you dont feel the die off or so thats from my own experience and what my LLMD told me!

Hope this helps!

I had a good morning but the rest of the day has been typical of when I was taking the Flagyl. I can't assume that this is permanent or just because the abx are still in my system yet. I'll have to wait it out and see, I guess!

I believe, for me, the side effects of the drug made me ill and not aa herx. When I would forget to take one, I would feel 100% improvement. When I did take them, I was debilitated. So, so sick. I finally quit taking it because I could not longer live that way. I took 500 mg daily. --I think the question you are asking is a good, smart one. How many of these reations are actually just caused by the actual abx or the high dosage and not a herx.

Stutterbug,

I didn't feel 100% improvement by any means...but I did have an easier morning than I have had since I started the Flagyl. The symptoms are pretty much back now but they are not as severe as they had been. Either way, I know that I haven't woken up and felt as good as I did this morning IN WEEKS. So, something happened!

When you say debilitated, what exactly did the Flagyl do to you? It amplified my neuro symptoms IMMENSELY.

Twitching, light/sound sensitivity, sweating, body weakness, nausea, anxiety....I basically had the worst hangover that would never go away. I have heard so many people say that this abx is hard to handle.

Yeah, I had all of those symptoms too...and the brain fog has been terrible. I thought it could be a herx, but maybe I was just suffering from side effects. :(

That makes me feel like I'm back at square one! But the other times I've taken Flagyl, these things did not happen. Even when I took it a month ago, it wasn't this bad.
