Sonic finally responded for not letting my daughter park in a handicapped parking space even though she has a handicapped hang tag and ID. They sent her a coupon for a free sandwich. Not just any free sandwich. But a free sandwich of her choice.

Did you at least get a formal acknowledgement and apology?

this is outrageous. they broke the law point blank. they should be made accountable for it. to offer you and free meal, oops not even that but a sandwich. its like a slap in the face. they don't give a toot is what it is saying to me.

you should contact a disability lawyer about this b4 it happens again, cause without a reprimand it will happen again.

i am so sorry you and your daughter are going through this.

Will she actually be able to get into the carpark and *park* and get into the shop, next time, so she can actually get that sandwich??

It doesn't sound like they gave her an apology, or an assurance that it wouldn't happen again. Grrr.

I agree your Daughter deserves an apology and some acknowledgment  that they will talk to there employess about the Laws. They are so lucky that was not me I think I would have parked and called the police and maybe the local news.

I can't imagine a teenager having to go threw that when I was younger I would have not made a scene, but now they would be in trouble.

ttlittlestar,

I agree that sending your daughter a coupon for a sandwich is ridiculous. I cannot believe they actually had the nerve to do that. Please call the corporate office so your daughter or anyone else doesnt have to go through this again.

So what are you going to do now this is not enough.
I would inform them that they broke the law and that you will be contacting authorities
The line is faded not showing where Lyme came in. I became a new Mommy n my Lyme decided to show itself. Swollen elephant like knee and finger and limiting back pain. Bell's palsey, weight loss as if I had no muscle on my bones anymore. And much more text book lyme symptoms. To a Lyme doc, after alot of there is nothing wrong with you and a recommend to counceling,he said V this is Lyme. What kept me pressing on I had Lyme while I was pregnant. I know I was not infected while pregnant. I am watching her with an eagle eye. God Bless everyone. Love Veronica. Were the ones who know about Lyme not the doctors. Isnt that just mad? Backwards. We will be pursuing this further. It does make you laugh though. Speeding, for example, is breaking the law. Imagine the response you would get if you gave the officer a sandwich to pay off the ticket. I guess if the crime were more severe, you might have to spring for fries with the sandwich and maybe even a drink! She has been checked before, but once they see her ID she is always allowed to park.

LOL ttlittlestar. I'm so glad you are pursuing it further. It makes no sense that she was treated that way.

Personally, I don't think a money lawsuit is the answer for everything(you haven't said that that is what you're going to do, but people seem to be suggesting it).  Every lawsuit just propagates the next and the people who get hurt the most are the employees who may be laid off when a business has to downsize to help pay judgements.

I've always thought that if something was bad enough to sue for, then jail time for the specific offender, not punishing everyone by bankrupting the company, would be the best justice in many cases.

Now, jail time in this case might be a bit harsh; but instead a good start would be a statement of what's happened and a copy of the coupon, sent to your local news stations.  Can't you see it now?  "News at 11- Can't park in Handicapped spot, Here's a free sandwich".  Once they see that, that will probably increase their response by several magnitudes...

Ultimately, one employee made a poor judgement but their home office has apparently decided to compound it with apathy.  It's unfortunate that you now have to take it to the next level in order to embarass them into taking more appropriate action, it seems like no company wants to take responsibility for things unless they are either sued or embarrassed in the news.   At a bare minimum; I would have thought they would have: A.  Given somewhat more free food than one sandwich B.  Acknowledged the error in writing and C. Designed and presented you with an official  Sonic parking tag signed by the highest corporate officer that entitles the bearer to park in any Sonic parking spot without harrassment.

In all honesty, a nicely written apology would have been what was expected. A mass produced postcard thanking us for our recent contact with Sonic was a bit of a surprise. There were 2 people working the parking lot that day. One appeared to be a manager of some sort according to my daughter. Both said she could not park. The same thing happened to me once and I did not pursue it. I was working at a wedding (I am a videographer) and not allowed to use the handicapped space because I was not a guest. The dr wanted me to be able to park close to save my knees as the equipment is heavy to load in. Ended up parking several blocks away (they would not even let me in the parking lot) and spent the rest of the week with aching knees.

where i live here in Tx. i have found out that wal-mart can not ask you to not park in the handicapped parking spaces. with or without a tag. as it is a public place. i was at wal-mart this weekend, and why waiting for them to bring me a scooter. i was talking to another lady, who was also handicapped. it is very upsetting when folks who do not have the tags park in the spaces. taking them away from the ones who really need them. so she stated she was going to start video taping their cars and tags to send into the police, as proof positive.

then fine here for parking in 1 is 50-300 bucks.
my way of thinking is. if they tell you you can not park in one with the proper tag then they are breaking the law and should be find for it. it is a shame we have to go to such measures these days. but if left unaccountable then they will keep it up and one never knows it cant cause more harm or even lead to the death of someone. RD,

We were having similiar problems at the Walmart where I live. Now, there is a security officer on call 24/7. If you don't have a handicapp tag, you get a ticket.

Maybe they're afraid if they apologize you will sue.  I think they're hoping you just go away.  Have you tried to call and speak to someone at the corp office?  I think how they responded was just adding insult to injury! KO

2001 symptoms started:
Tingling in fingers and toes both sides, not tested at that time for LD
2007 Summer tested pos. WB, diagnosed with LD, tested neg for co-infections thru Igenex
Abx - Doxy 100mg 2x/day for 3 weeks (before diagnosis)
Amoxicillin 1gm 2x/day for 1 month
Amoxicillin 1gm 3x/day with Probenecid 500mg 2x/day  5 months
Currently on Dr. Zhang's protocol stopped Zhang's after 6 months symptoms returned.  Started Buhner's protocol May 2009
