Hi everyone,

So I noticed that Dr. B's treatment guidelines mention a "yeast-free diet", but my LLMD didn't mention anything about it. Should I be following it? Or is it not always necessary?

Thanks

Nicky

My dr. told me to cut out all carbs, and sugar. He said it helps. I did real well for two months, then I needed to eat sugar. Now iam going to go back on it. I felt somewhat better while not eating all the carbs and sugar. I guess he said the bacteria feeds off it. not sure if that helps good luck.

I think the point of the yeast-free diet is to prevent yeast overgrowth while on antibacterial therapy (abx and/or herbs). Also, a high carb diet may contribute to fatigue because the brain uses high carb foods to make serotonin, which is elevated in the brains of some Lyme patients.

I just started taking diflucan and miraculously the terrible carb and sweet cravings have disappeared, hopefully not to return. When I first started treatment back in February my diet was extremely healthy but as the weeks went by the cravings became stronger and stronger and I gave in to them more and more. Not good! lol

Good luck!

Hmm. I'm not on an anti-yeast prescription, but one of the natural supplements I was taking is an anti-fungal. My doc said it won't interfere with my antibiotics, so I guess I'll keep taking it just in case.

I've cut out sugar before, so I should be able to do that ok (although I'll miss chocolate), but it's the convenienve factor that makes it hard for me. Bringing a sandwhich to lunch, or eating cereal for breakfast is so much easier than having to cook. And I'm really going to miss fruit- I love apples, and can eat 3 or 4 a day easily.

Nicky D, have you heard of Ezekiel bread, or wheat-free bread? That's what people with gluten intolerance eat sometimes; it's not too bad, actually, I've eaten several loaves a while back (before + Lyme). My regular grocery store carries it, in the freezer section, also the health food store does (more variety). It's a little more pricey than regular bread, but the bonus is, since you keep it in the freezer, it doesn't get stale or moldy. Good luck.
