Hi Everyone,  has your doctor ever done a visual acuity test on you?  You basically look at a small piece of paper with different lines that get lighter and lighter.  It is suppose to indicate level of neurological involvement.

2001 symptoms started:
Tingling in fingers and toes both sides, not tested at that time for LD
2007 Summer tested pos. WB, diagnosed with LD, tested neg for co-infections thru Igenex
Abx - Doxy 100mg 2x/day for 3 weeks (before diagnosis)
Amoxicillin 1gm 2x/day for 1 month
Amoxicillin 1gm 3x/day with Probenecid 500mg 2x/day  5 months
Currently on Dr. Zhang's protocol stopped Zhang's after 6 months symptoms returned.  Started Buhner's protocol May 2009

I was given this once and always wondered after if my LLMD really knew how to interpret the test.

The one she gave me was a series of squares in row. If you'd draw a line from upper left corner to lower right corner, I could see the images in only one of the two triangles this line would make.

--hard to explain. I hope this makes sense.

When she told me there was something in every square, I was surprised there was supposed to be.

It just seems that I should be noticing something wrong in my vision if it's true that something is wrong neurologically.

I'm wondering what your results were like KO? It sounds like you had a different test. Do you have visual symptoms?

Korissa,  I was given a F.A.C.T. visual acuity test, you can google that to see what it looks like.  My doctors staff at the time apparently didn't know how to do the test.  The first time they had me do it I asked if I should wear my reading glasses, and was told no.  The next time same thing, but they left the book and test in the office with me and I read it.  If you normally wear glasses to read you are suppose to wear them, so I told her when she came back in and she said "Oh well we'll do it again with your glasses on".  When the doc came in he looked at the results with glasses and said "It looks like the supplements are really working", I then told him that the first test was performed wrong, and so was the 2nd one until I read the instructions and told his staff I was suppose to wear my glasses.  That was the last test they gave me.  I don't think anyone else on the forum had ever heard of the test at that time (2007).   I noticed a dramatic change in my eyesight when I turned 40, that was also when I started to have alot of symptoms re-appear (only I didn't know they were symptoms of anything).  The website I found about the test didn't talk about what the results mean, it was more geared for doctors wanting to buy the test for office use.

KO, I must have had the test around the same time as you did.

At that visit, when I told her I was always looking and looking for something eg. on the kitchen counter and couldn't find it until I looked several times. That was when she pulled the little book out with the test page.

I was also seeing things that were in black and white stripes like the louvres of closet doors or the blades of a radiator go wavy if I looked directly at them.

The link you gave, with the picture of the test page is what she showed me.

I think those symptoms have cleared up now. Also feeling in my hands and feet is better. I'm thinking that's all neurologically rrelated

It looks like we're they only ones who were ever given this test???

Korissa,
It looks that way.  Even when I took the test with my reading glasses on I still couldn't see the lines in all the boxes, but I never was given the test again, and I stopped seeing that doc because he was a quack.  I never noticed a visual problem like yours, when I turned 40 almost to the day, I went from 20/10 to having trouble reading a book overnight which scared me, the change was that dramatic.  That was long before I was diagnosed in 2007. This is something my Dr discussed with me.  Evidently the bateria can affect the optic nerve.  Here is some more info for anyone that is interested.  There is also an online version of the contrast test.  There is a charge for the test - like $15 or so - so you'll have to decide if it's worth it to you.

My right eye checked out OK but there were areas missing from the left.  My neuropsych exam showed some major deficits - it's a very thorough exam but very expensive if you don't have insurance.
