I've been reading alot about getting liver enzymes back to normal and I found a few sites that talked about detoxing the liver. That if you had a fatty liver, it could cause so many different symptoms like joint pain, fatigue, etc. The site I read this information on, had an e-book you could buy that lists the foods you could eat to detox. It's also supposed to list some supplements.

Anyway, I'm already getting Milk Thistle. Do any of you think I should do a liver detox before starting IV antibiotics? Or is Milk Thistle going to be enough? If you think I can benefit from a liver detox, what do you recommend?

I think Deejavu might have good comments on this but there are several different kinds of liver flushing you could do- i haven' talked with Deejavu to see which she does- but i know there are several kinds and also liver cleanses= I think you SHOULD do a liver detox before your antibiotics- but you might want to do some researching around to see which is best for YOU-there are 2 liver flushes i know about at the moment. I hope Denise will comment on this! Denise have you heard about the grapefruit/ epsom salt and olive oil flush?? What are your opinions on this?
My friend that does routine liver flushes does this one along w/parasite cleansing- she has recovered from fibromylgia for quite a while now- she had it for 14 years-i wonder sometimes too if she had lyme. She's the one that got me on the parasite cleanse and i plan to do a liver flush myself- though i am a bit nervous about how i will feel during the process- any thoughts Denise for Cajungrl and myself?

ps. milk thistle is a GOOD detoxing herb for the liver but not the same as actually doing a flush.  I know Denise does colon cleansing but again, i'm not sure if she has a different opinon about liver flushing. Seems a lot of people do it quite safely and succesfully from what i hear anyway.

Thanks finding. I've done a colon cleanse before and it was pretty rough. I got pretty sick at the beginning but that was the nasty toxins coming out.

Dr Natura Colonix is an awesome colon cleanse. You don't get real sick either. And, you don't run to the bathroom. I have done that one a couple of times. Well, I'll be truthful...I have started it a couple of times:) I always give up after a couple of weeks. He also has a "toxin out" program now too that might include a liver cleanse..google it and check it out. Order directly off of his site, or from ebay. Probably ebay. Don't buy it at like a local natural food store cause you will soooo overpay.
I also have read that while doing any kind of cleanse, but especially a liver cleanse, that you should do enemas or (dang what are they called? You go in and they stick the tube up there and flush you out? I haven't had one, but I can't think of the name!grrr). Anyway, I guess if you go to someone who really knows how to do that, they massage your abdomen and liver and help get toxins out that way. Sorry I can't think of the name! You know how it is though!

you probably meant colonic irrigation
I've done that and it wasn't too tough or painful (well, we know what pain is..) just doubt whether it actually helps liver detox, but it's part of detox therapy usually, for all kinds of disorders.
Probably tick bite August 2007, while 8 months pregnant, February 2008, Dx - Reactive Arthritis, which never ended... Elisa IgM and IgG both Negative, Western Blot IgM - Negative
2nd dx April 2009 - probably seronegative Lyme disease, treatments so far 2 week abx twice, Currently no meds, but naturopathic supplements

Hi all,

I personally have not done any liver flushes, shame on me!  I have been a coward.

CajunGirl, I thought Milk Thistle was used to support the liver but since I never researched milk thistle, what do I know?

Anyway, it is my understanding (correct me if I am wrong) that when one does a liver flush or cleansing, one is also doing a gallbladder cleanse as well.

A note about people without their gallbladder, somewhere I read that one doesn't need their gallbladder to do certain cleanses (depending on which one).

Dr. Jernigan has a recipe in his book (I believe both books) and that involves virgin olive oil, wolfberry juice, and a whole bunch of other ingredients that one drinks.   I have not done that either as it takes much will power and even though I promised myself I would do this, I still have not to date!

If everyone would like I could type out Dr. J's recipe.  I still have no idea where to buy Wolfberry Juice??   Guess I have to google more..

These are some links I found (one is from CureZone.com and if very graphic, not for the faint of heart so I suggest skipping the first link if you fall into the category of queasy from looking at graphics):

Warning:  First link is Graphic from CureZone

Below is a video of doing a liver cleanse:

If someone is willing to do a flush with me at the same time so we can compare notes, I would be happy to do it.   We can have a flush get-together!

alone&scared and bembuks,

Yes, I have watched youtube video's of colon irrigation (or colonics) which is done by a professional.   I don't know if that helps cleanse the liver, but since that water goes all the way UP there, who knows?

I do the basic colon cleanse using a 2 gallon enema bag (I bought it from the internet from the website below) that I hook (it comes with a silver hook) inside my bathroom to first make sure I am cleaned out and then I do a coffee enema..  The organic coffee contains stimulants that help rid the sides of the intestinal walls of sludge and toxins.   I feel more energy after doing a coffee enema and much cleaner inside.

I bought the 2 gallon bag years ago (now it's $39.95) and it's still holding up great, it does mention Milk Thistle.

If you click around this site there's lot of information.

Here's the link to Dr. Natura's (very graphic):

Bembuks and Deejavu. Thanks you! Colonic...that is what I was looking for. And, I typed my original post wrong I think..shocker with the way my mind has been "working" lately:) What I meant was, while you are doing some kind of detox program, the colonic or enema is supposed to help get rid of the toxins faster than you would without them. A colonic or enema on its own wouldn't cleanse the liver, but it helps rid the body of toxins from any kind of cleanse or fast or herx.
Thanks for being patient with me and my mind!lol.

Deejavu,
same here. I've been reading on liver detox, but first I was still nursing and couldn' t do it. and then just plain scared.
Also, most recipes include olive oil plus some kind of citrus juice, which i am allergic to. But once you mention Wolfberry juice - maybe this is sth. I can try.
I'll check the links you posted when I get a spare moment.

I have also read that Milk thistle (active ingredient Silimarin) is a liver protector, not purely detox agent. My guess would be - first liver flush, then Milk thistle - like we do with a baby: first clean, then feed :))))) But I took Milk thistle in combo with vitamin B when I had slightly enlarged liver and a bit painful last summer, and all pain disappeared.
