For the last month my sinuses won't clear, I always have at least a low-grade sinus headache, and my ears feel stuffed and emit a loud high-frequency shhhhhhhh sound.  I've taken sudafed, benadryl, chlortrometon, guifederine.  I'm using steam, a netti-pot, and a nasal spray.  I see a chiropractor regularly.  The ENT tells me my eardrums are not bulging so there is not a significant amount of fluid behind them.  But I can't shake this.  I have Lyme, bartonella (x2), and babesia.  Could one or more of these be causing this?  If so, are there any other things I could try to clear it up?  Also, since I'm on antibiotics the ENT NP felt I didn't have a sinus infection, but I'm wondering if it could be a fungal infection in the sinuses.

Thanks Rose

It sounds to me like seasonal allergies.
I get all the same symptoms, which have increased in the last month from leaf mold.

Your ENT doesn't understand what Lyme does to your immune system. You can have allergy problems even if you didn't before Lyme.

I use Nasonex and Asteline nasal sprays daily. And add Zyrtec (the generic brand from Costco) during the height of spring and fall times. I also use the Netti Pot every day.

I'm also going to have electral dermal testing and treatment for my allergies. The more severe the allergies are, the harder it makes it for your immune system to fight the Lyme. So talk to your LLMD about it. And ask your Chiropractor if they know of anyone using BioSet (electral dermal testing).

Much luck to you,
Lisa

Lisa,

Thank you very much. I've never had allergies and didn't know the symptoms. I will definitely look into everything you said. I've been feeling pretty desperate, this ear hissing is really annoying, and constantly having a headache is no fun either.

Hi Rose, i get the stuff ear feeling along with ringing too! sometimes just the ringing out of the blue. Another odd symptom! A friend told me her ringing can get pretty bad but she uses headphones- especially to block out "white noise" when she's around too much noise. Just a thought. Mine isn't that bad yet but i can only imagine how annoying it must get after a while!
I refuse to stay sick! Period.

Hi Rose, the Apple Cider Vinegar will definitely help with the sinus issues.

Jenn,

How much does one take, and how is it delivered? Is it watered down? I'm assuming it is ingested, not used as a nasal spray. Thanks.

You would drink the ACV, but it has to be organic, with "mother" in it and non pasturized for the ACV to work well. Do not take the commerical brand.

And not sure how it would help the sinuses. When you do the neti pot, add a few drops of oil or oregano. You can also take the oil orally to boost the immune system.
It doesn't sound like an allergy though, it seems to me it could be more of a silent migraine issue. I have the same issues by the way

I'm not on abx anymore but my tinnitus is horrible and I struggle with sinus issues. I'm also a naturopath in training so what I study I try on myself.
What works for me is the oil of oregano, but you should see a neurologist, have a sinus ex ray and rule other things out.

The ACV has helped me with sinus headaches, my mother uses it as well. I get Bragg's brand. I put 1 tsp in a cup of water and I sip through a straw. It also helps with migraines. My mother had a migraine and I had read the ACV with honey in a glass of water would make it go away. It did with in an half hour! Our family has struggled with migraines for many many years and this remedy has worked the best!

I have hard the neti pot is amazing, I just find it easier for me to drink the ACV.

So I have Bragg's Liquid Aminos, but that is a different product, right? I'm sorry to be so ignorant, but what does it mean to have "mother" in it? I've only had this problem for a month so I have great hope that I will overcome it. Thanks for the info peacesoul and Jenn.

It is a different product. I took this directly from Bragg's website....

The mother is the dark, cloudy substance in the ACV formed from naturally occurring pectin and apple residues - it appears as molecules of protein connected in strand-like chains. The presence of the mother shows that the best part of the apple has not been destroyed. Vinegars containing the mother contain enzymes and minerals that other vinegars may not contain due to overprocessing, filtration and overheating.

Do you actually eat the dark cloudy stuff, or is it just good to have it in the ACV because that shows the ACV isn't overprocessed?

It settles at the bottom of the bottle, so before you open each day, you shake it up and it just mixes in. You can't see it once you pour it out though.

Hey Rose, I'm dealing with sinus issues too but don't actually have a stuffy nose. I have the low grade headache, puffy eyes, earaches, swishing noise instead of hissing, etc. For the longest time I thought it might be undetected allergies or chemical sensitivities but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it and I also don't respond to allergy meds. Whenever I would go to the doctor before being diagnosed with LD for these symptoms, I was told there was inflammation but no active infection. One ENT tried to blame it on GERD although I never really bought that one because I never experienced heartburn in my life.

I know this can be a symptom of LD but was also told just last week that TMJ can cause it too. I just don't know what to believe anymore and am hoping the ACV helps.

Jenn, Thanks for the tip about ACV. I'm going to give it a try.

Scorpio,

Yes, i was just reading about the TMJ connection on another thread. Definitely something I will follow up on. I'm calling my TMJ specialist on Monday. This hissing is driving me nuts, and my ears and sinuses feel closed up and achy. I'll follow any path to relief. Thanks for alerting me to a new one. I hope you get relief, too.

It is a cheap remedy and it helps with multiple issues. Let me know how it goes!

I have ear ringing, and sinus problems too. I have been to see an ENT and he said everything looked good. I'm just assuming that my problems are related to the Lyme. Also, I keep getting sore throats with swollwen lymph nodes.

I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling with this too. I have the sore throat, too, but not swollen nodes right now. Every evening I'm hot, cold, over and over again - keep breaking out into a sweat. Ugh. Last night the sinus headache was so bad and nothing I did would help. Couldn't sleep. If it's the Lyme, it hope it decides to get out of my sinuses and ears soon. It's made its way through lots of my body, and everywhere that feels under attack, at the time, I think I can't stand it, but then it moves on. I will hope this is like that too and that soon it will move on. How long have you been getting this, 3whiteroses?

I have had the sinus issues since I started antibiotics. At one point I stopped the meds to give my stomach a break, and during my break my nose started to spasm. Within three days of restarting the antibiotics my nose stopped spasming. As far as the sinus issues go I always feel like I have a sinus infection and sometimes the pain is unbearable and I just want to lay my head down and not move.

I also get the sweats, I have only had them for the past two months. I'm sweating really bad one minute and cold the next. I plan on getting my hormones checked just to make sure nothing else is going on. If the results are normal than I know the lyme is causing the sweats.

I definitely understand how it feels to be under attack all the time.

Did you get checked to make sure you don't have a sinus infection (viral or bacterial)? I want to do that before I can relax into thinking it is the Lyme. I've been told the hot/cold/sweats is bartonella. Do you have that too? How long have you had the sinus issues? I'm finding it pretty difficult to function in my day when everything I do is clouded by this headache and hisssssssssssing.

I have been to see a ENT and have been cleared. Eventhough I continue to have these issues I'm always told that everyting check out fine. So for me it must be the Lyme. I was told that I have Bartonella, and yes...the sweats are so bad. One day I had a red shirt on and I was sweating so bad it turned my bra red. I did not have sweats prior to lyme.

I hate lyme it makes you feel so darn yucky!

3whiteroses - I am glad you checked out well at the ENT. I will relax a little when/if that happens for me. The pain is difficult, but as always the worrying is worse. Thanks for making me smile with your red bra story. That's a lot of sweat! Before I knew I had Lyme, etc., I thought my sweats and hot flashes were a result of hormone imbalance even though I take HRT. My LLMD is the one who told me it's the bartonella.

Just a hunch, but I'd be willing to bet you have a lot of company here with your lyme sentiment. Count me in.

It could be a yeast infection in the sinuses. Make sure you are taking some form of antifungal.

Also, detox from the head and brain heads through the throat, they caused a lot of swollen glands for me.

I agree with Cmacaran. Rose, have you tried the ACV yet? I'd bring you some if you were close by :)

Is ACV an antifungal? I am not taking one at this time. The ENT can't see me until next week - I wanted to be tested to see if this is a fungus. I'm thinking of calling the LLMD to ask for an antifungal. We discussed it at the last appointment, but I didn't want to take anything unless I needed it. Yesterday I had a pretty good day. Today the pain and the hissing are terrible. Thanks for your input. Can I buy ACV in a regular store?

There are a lot of holistic, herbal or over the counter anti yeast supplements to chose from. Somewhere on this site I posted a list, but can't find it. An internet search should reveal quite a few. There is one made from castor bean extract that is pretty good. Its name is just letters and numbers, AK74 for something like that. It might be from thorne.

I have tried two perscription anti fungals, nystatin is esy to tolerate but it never leaves your digestive track, it only kills yeast in your digestive track. It doesn't go anywhere else in your body. I take this all the time (two with each meal) to keep my digestive track healthy since I am on so many antibiotics. I take the tablets as the liquid contains sugar which feeds the yeast.

The other antifungal I only take during outbreaks is Diflucan (there are three others in this same anti fungal family). Diflucan is hard on my stomach but is much stronger than nystatin and goes everywhere. It is also hard on your liver, so if your liver has any bad history make sure your blood gets tested when you are on this. Also check the drug interactions. Good luck I hope your symptoms get better.
