Hi I am new to this forum and need some help badly. I am very scared I have lyme disease but I am so confused because some people tell me I have it and others say I dont (or they dont think I do). My symptoms started with GERD when I was 14 (im 24 now) and bad allergies growing up. I have had sinus infections for the past 2 years and took multiple antibiotics, then about last October I started to get really bad pain behind my eyes which would sometimes lead to bad headaches. The pain is constant now 24/7. Then I started getting bad stomach problems and about last December it got worse with constant diahhrea, etc (which i still have as well). Then I finally got my deviated septom fixed in feb because they thought thats why I had so many sinus problems. Well after that I developed bladder pain in the beginning of March which was diagnosed as IC. Those are my main problems as of right now. I have had several blood tests, one from the Fry lab that said my blood smear came back with hemobartonella although when I research it says its only in cats, and another from a NP who said my CD 57 was really low and Vitamin D level meaning that I do have lyme. I went to the Mayo Clinic though and did the Western Blot test and another blood count and smear and they said it all came back normal and negative. I did it twice. It did come back although saying my rheumatoid factor was a little high. I am so confused and wanted to see what everyone here thought. Also, I want to go to a Lyme Disease specialist, the best that there is. I dont care where it is I will travel anywhere. I want to get tested for every test and co-infection test there is, I just need to find a doctor that does it all. Please Please Please help!

Hi Trish - Welcome to the Lyme forum. As you have already discovered, getting a diagnosis of Lyme (including coinfections) can be challenging. Your story is not unlike mine: GERD, sinuses, IC (ugh), and more. I had negative Lyme tests in the past, but what I found out is that you need to get the right test at the right lab read by a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor (LLMD) to have the best shot at an accurate diagnosis. If you look on the sticky at the top of this forum there is a lot of good information about that. The lab is IgenX, and the test is a Western Blot IGG, IGI. In addition to Lyme I also have bartonella and babesiosis. I don't know about the strain of bartonella that was in your blood smear, but since I am not a cat, obviously there are strains that are found in humans. If you look on the sticky there are also sites where you can go to find a LLMD near you. One of them is doingbetternow. You can also contact the ILADS. Good luck.

Trish,

You stole my line (need help). ; ) I had some similar symptoms when I first got sick (almost 2 years ago). Have you had a Lyme test through IgeneX? If not, you should. Did your Lyme Westerns show any bands? If so which ones. We can help you interpret the results. What other symptoms do you have that make you suspect Lyme?

Hang in there. My email is brjoyce2@att.net if you have any questions. Take care.

Hi Trish,

Were you ever scratched by a kitten? If I'm not mistaken, hemobartonella can be given to humans usually by scratching them. This is how I got bartonella. If indeed you do have that, it really needs to be taken care of. You really need to see a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor(LLMD), so that you can get on the right treatment for it. Most regular doctors do not know how to treat Lyme and co-infections.

P.S.- If the cat has bartonella and scratches it's claws in dirt, it is possible to get it that way too. My father-in-law caught bartonella that way.

Here is some info for you to help you find an LLMD in your area:
